Its not often you come across a team of 3 producers under one alias, but that is exactly how the 3 close friends from Sheffield started creating music together in 2013, 6 years later nothing has changed as the trio embark on their 1Forty debut release. Sam, Alex & Arthur all studied at college and started to gain some traction on the club circuit a couple of years later mainly in and around Sheffield at venues such as The Night Kitchen, Yellow Arch, Hope Works, The Harley and Plug.

Following Arthur’s move to the hub of underground music - Bristol, he started on the circuit there which lead him to the heights of playing a sold out Motion on a number of occasions amongst other venues such as Blue Mountain and the intimate Cosies. Spinning all things that 1Forty typically hones in on - UKG, Grime, Funky & Bass, they’ve performed alongside a host of names including Commodo, Loefah, Khan & Neek, Plastician, Bassboy, Swifta Beater, TC4 and Devilman just to name a few.

The trio still produce together sending stems back and forth which hasn’t hindered workflow by any means. Releases have come across Hot Cakes, Project Allout, Saucy Music, Second To None, Pack London and more. In that time they have gathered support from names including Flava D, DJ Q, Zinc, DJ Haus, Shift K3y, Conducta, Murlo, Sammy Virji and L U C Y amongst others.

We welcome back Gru Var, a producer who made his Southpoint debut on the 'Moony & Movement Presents' compilation earlier in the year. As one of the most forward-thinking UKG producers, we were super impressed with his unique take of the genre, presenting you with his latest single, 'An Excercise In Detail'. We are given an array of seriously twisted garage style drums and grimey synths, backed up with some unpredictable sub and percussion work. This one is a must-have for DJs around the UK.

With that being said, Brighton producer Jake Compton makes an explosive return with 'Inversion', a track which combines colourful moog-slapping bass LFOs with some incredibly eerie atmospheric soundscaping and industrial percussive lines to string together a club-ready roller.

With his previous features behind him, he goes all out on this latest piece entitled ‘Believe’, which sees him switch up the flavour into a more UKG inspired bassy stomper, fuelled by abstract vocal manipulation, colourful harmonic structures and groovy drum riffs. It’s the perfect soundtrack to any summer evening.

At Southpoint, we are proud to represent so many different areas of underground UK dance music, with so many different elements now being thrown into the melting pot. The label's roots lay in grime, however, which is why we are so happy to be welcoming a brand new Brighton-based grime producer who goes by he name of El-Laurie. He arrives with a tailslide as we unveil a war-ready creation by the name of 'Foot Soldier'. It's a fantastic introduction to the team as El Laurie perfectly fuses the swampy bass textures of new school dubstep with raucous reese bass leads and super choppy drum textures, unleashing some serious energy into the dance.
