FFS MIX 144 | Vindya

Dutch-born, London-based, DJ and producer Vindya has got her groove back. As a newcomer in post-pandemic England, she flourished, quickly becoming known for her pristine and eclectic techno selections and filling dancefloors across numerous cities. Now with a central focus, and deeply inspired by her experience in Europe’s party capitals, Vindya is fully equipped to perform ‘journeying, four-to-the-floor and groove oriented’ sets this summer, while also testing the waters with unreleased tracks of her own.

With more than one string to her bow, Vindya is pioneering a new sound which combines techno with her South Asian heritage, mirroring the direction she has taken as a contemporary classical composer. Following huge success at Sounds From The Other City Festival in April, Vindya will once again be combining her love of hardgroove with Konnakol (an ancient Indian vocal practice, sitting firmly at the historic root of countless hand percussion samples) at Manchester International Festival 2023.

FFS144: Vindya

London-based DJ, producer and classically trained musician Vindya is delving into her roots. Deeply drawn to music from a young age, she has continued to study the subject academically, and will soon begin her doctorate, researching ancient ritualistic and religious music from her heritage country: Sri Lanka. Given this background, it is not a surprise that Vindya identifies with a vastly repetitive, percussion-heavy, and hypnotic techno sound. 

She has flourished over the past two years, carving out a space for herself in the energetic, four-to-the-floor, and groove-oriented soundworld.

Her recent set for London’s FLUXO paid homage to her alternative, Dutch-born roots, largely selecting tracks by Amsterdam’s finest producers to forge a relentless and uplifting groove. 

With countless musical endeavours in the pipeline, such as intertwining these early roots, you can expect to hear much more from this eclectic artist.

Introducing our family member - DUTS

Co-founder behind the dynamic platform and event series 'Refractiøn’ and now a part of Structure. DUTS has a background orchestrating community-focused events within the underground scene in the UK and Poland.

An all-round DJ technically, DUTS seamlessly blends the analog warmth of vinyl with the cutting-edge precision of digital. Crafting a sonic journey that transcends genres, his eclectic selections draw inspiration from a myriad of musical influences. Over the years, DUTS has been deeply moved by the hypnotic elements of dub, the stripped-back functional approach of minimal, the ethereal aura of ambient, and the soul-stirring resonance of deep melodies—influences that echo throughout his DJ sets.

His experience behind the decks shines through having performed at renowned venues such as The DBA, Stage & Radio, Crackhouse (PL), Rebellion, and Eastern Bloc.

We’re pleased to welcome another addition to our big family - VENT

Raised in a Jamaican household whilst growing up in the Manchester independent music scene VENT became infatuated with the uplifting sounds of his origins whilst also resonating with the moody music of the indi bands at the time, pushing him on to become a drummer. His organic and obscure taste in music helped Andre connect the dots through mood regardless of genre - with these influences  now residing in electronic music his mission is to provide “SONIC RELIEF” by delving into his atmospheric sci-fi world.

We celebrate another great addition to our ever growing Structure family

As a researcher of percussive ritual music from ancient communities in Sri Lanka, it comes as no surprise that Vindya identifies with the vastly repetitive, rhythm-focussed and hypnotic techno sound. Prior to carving out a name for herself across London and Manchester’s techno parties, Vindyatrained as a classical composer, a practice she has continued while travelling through mainland Europe and moving to Manchester. Her early years as an electronic artist saw her filling iconic dancefloors across the continent, including FOLD, Printworks, The Beams, The DBA, Fuchs and Harry Klein, with recent sets paying homage to her Dutch-born roots. Having sculpted this double life, intertwining these acoustic and electronic worlds is Vindya’s next venture, while continuing to bring her uplifting and relentless groove to festivals, clubs and her birth country this summer.
