In 2020 Unsound presented AFTERLIFE網路來生, an online MMO game, experimental space and curatorial project developed by Taiwan-based new-media art group NAXS Corp and co-curated with experimental producer Meuko! Meuko!. Inspired by reincarnation and the space-time structure from the Buddhist tradition, this virtual world explored the life, death and rebirth of our digital bodies. As part of this ambitious project Mueko! Mueko! programmed a wonderful array of pan-Asian musicians, with a particular focus on Taiwan. 

Now Mueko! Mueko! has created a mix for the Unsound podcast series featuring many of the artists from AFTERLIFE網路來生, a singular mix that gradually builds in waves of intensity. Mirroring the shape of the music lineup of AFTERLIFE網路來生, the first section includes a showcase of Taiwanese experimental artists, while the second features pan-Asian DJs and producers. 

Note also that two artists featured on the mix are included on the Unsound Intermission album: 33EMYBW and Slikback, who here collaborates with Hyph11E.

For the third episode of our mix series, we are pleased to welcome the french artist Guerre Maladie Famine.

Guerre Maladie Famine’s DJ sets cross musical genres to sew together the idioms of our fragmented collective identity. The thrilling narrative he composes does not simply point out the porosity of musical genre division. It also invites us to intimately question the integrity of our musical identities, all too often resulting from blind determinism and empty certitudes.

"In correlation with ex magazine first release, I wanted through this mix to explore the fragmented nature of our identities in the digital realm using old-school breakcore mixed with OSTs from animes and games that dig into the same theme (Serial Experiments Lain, Kaiba, Perfect Blue, Zelda)

With the increasing use of technology in our daily lives, where online personas, social media, and virtual communities have become an integral part of everyday life allowing individuals to create and project different versions of themselves, each fragmenting into multiple and often conflicting identities, boundaries between reality and the virtual are increasingly blurred, in a world where identity is constantly in a flux i feel like these works have more relevance than ever before (encourage u to watch them, especially Lain and Kaiba)"
