haiku #489: Dividing the autumn sky / Into two / A huge chinquapin tree

Ambient Tracks

My first attempt at mixing my own music in only a slightly more serious way.  I mixed a primary guitar track with a fairly subtle backing track that is mostly guitar drones.  I put that down over a third track I recorded from the north shore of Lake Superior in April of 2021.  I hear all the mistakes but I just did it in one take with no edits.  I figure it can only go up from here.

Recorded in a single take with Fender Jazz Master, Strymon Big Sky reverb and Zoom H6. Field recording from Iona's Beach Lake Superior.

Found And Lost

Recorded on a Gretsch Baritone guitar through a Strymon Big Sky and Fender Mustang GT200.  The field recording was captured on a Zoom H6 at Moss Lake, BWCA in April of 2021.

Takahama Kyoshi was a Japanese poet active during the Shōwa period of Japan. He was the editor of the haiku magazine Hototogisu (previously edited by Shiki), where he promoted a more traditional style of haiku, as opposed to other popular schools which did not follow the pattern of seventeen syllables at that time.

Kyoshi also highlighted the symbolic function of the kigo (the seasonal reference), even though the more modern trends were already tending towards seasonless haiku.

The Arpeggiator on the 223e is driving the sequence. I change the notes periodically. This whole things was spontaneous and off the cuff besides pre-tuning the synths.

For the base of this track I used the iPad as controller (yes midi but converted to cv) - for delay i drenched it in oil (40 years old GA-4RE oilcan delay).
