My journey back to 1991, these mixes have been a very long time in gestation, over twenty years to be precise! It is turning in to a great series of mixes celebrating why I love this music quite as much as I do!

Using only the original vinyl to give them all the real ‘feel’ of the early nineties DJ tapes (no cheating on Ableton, nasty mp3's or additional production here folks!) so it's just like back in the day (but no tape hiss or crappy MC's!) all cleaned up and recorded in the best quality today's equipment can provide.

EE4 11pm - I wasn't mucking about and from the very start threw a full on selection of 91' hardcore and Belgian techno at the EE crew and hats off to them, they bloody loved it!! 

We packed the main room out which is something that had never been achieved before, and warmed the room up nicely for 'Shades of Rhythm' (such an honour to do) and I'd like to say thanks to my two MC's for their help and support on the night.

The feedback afterwards has been epic and heartwarming, with many people saying they hadn't heard some of the tracks since back in the day, so bring on EE5 because I've got plenty more where this lot came from!

This is the live recording of myself with the award winning MC Cutter, and the legendary Major Ranks at Encapsulated Energy on 3rd August 2013 held at The Azur in Hastings.

Part 5 of a Charity event in Hastings UK I was asked to play something a little different to the norm so I threw together some 1992-1998 Progressive UK House, and tribal beats, some Dutch House and some Uplifting Dutch & UK Trance from the late 90's early 00's...bit of a mish mash...but it worked, they loved it!!

Sven Väth (born 26 October 1964, Obertshausen, Germany) is a Frankfurt based DJ/Producer in the electronic music scene since 1981; playing for over 32 years and counting. His single, “Electrica Salsa” under the alias OFF launched his career in 1986. Lovingly referred to as “Papa Sven” by his fans, Sven Väth has made his mark in the music community by being one of Germany’s “pop stars” in the nineties, running two famous night clubs in Germany, and starting his own company Cocoon, that encompasses a booking agency, record label, and a branch for events. He is recognized for cultivating the underground electronic music scene not just in Germany but in Ibiza as well, with his own night at Amnesia for fourteen years and after-parties at creative locations around the island. Sven Väth is a major proponent of vinyl, using only two decks and a mixer for his extensive DJ sets, the longest he has been known to go for is 30 hours.

In October 1990 Coventry made dance music history...

That first Saturday night/Sunday morning experience was put on at the former Granada Bingo Hall in Lower Ford Street,Coventry,England.

The bingo hall had now been transformed into a 4 floored nightclub, and was also voted the best nightclub in the country in 1991 by fellow ravers through DJ Magazine. With a chill out space including a cinema on the ground floor, a second floor room enough to hold 500 people, and the main room on the top floor holding over a 1000 people including the balcony.

Every Friday and Saturday night would be filled by clubber's and raver's from all over Britain..

Act's such as :The Prodigy, K Klass, SL2, Altern 8, Moby, Shades of Rhythm and LFO all passed through it's door's with live p.a. set's.

Top dj's such as, The great grooverider,carl cox,sasha,frankie bones,Micky finn,top buzz etc,all graced the decks on a reguar basis,and two hour set's were the norm.

February 94,the club was closed.

At the time of closing more than one million people had passed through its doors and it had a standing membership of 74,000. .

Here’s the set I played at Encapsulated Energy 3 last weekend and I just cannot put into words how great this night was! 


This was more than just a gig to me - it has to be up there with the most important moments of my life. 


I have wanted this moment since 1991. I grew up with this music and went to Storm's on Hastings pier just along from where EE3 was held, so the chance to play Oldskool-Rave in my home town with all my friends there was a dream come true, and if you think it sounds good here you really should have heard it at the pointy end of the Funktion One rig.


Unfortunately the Pre-Party wasn't recorded so as soon as I got back to The Retreat I ran through it again and here it is. Even better still there was a set free at 8pm and I was invited to have another go! This time Rob Kinetic and myself played b2b and we smashed it -  Electrofied were in the house! This set was also recorded and will follow shortly……

Goosebumps all the way.......... you can hear the excitement in your voices as the set builds and builds! Stu N has loved music since a very early age but it was with the dawn of rave that he found his true love! Living in Hastings with its legendary venue on the pier, he used to sit underneath to hear the new and excititng sounds coming from the ballroom, then in early 1991 he borrowed ID and got in and has never been quite the same since! 

The horns and hoovers of the euro breakbeat sound affected him to such and extent that even now in a quiet room it is all he can hear, better still he is back playing the music he loves (truly it never went away but now other people want to hear it as well)

However this doesn’t mean that Stu is not able to hold a crowd, he has always remained close to his roots by playing very occasionally at live events around the south coast. Most recently he's played at the now legendary 'Encapsulated Energy' parties in Hastings, alongside legends such as 'Jumping Jack Frost', Nebula II, LTJ Bukem and 'Shades of Rhythm' along with a single adventure to the mighty 'Labrynth - The Phoenix Rising' which was over the August Bank holiday in London.
