Originally set up in 1994 by Tilla Kemal (T-Mirage), Odysee was one of the first imprints to explore a deeper sound that fused Atmospheric Jungle with Techno elements and 70’s Jazz Funk & Film-Noire. Alongside other similar labels of the era such as Fabio’s Creative Source, Bukem’s Good Looking and with DJ support from Kemistry & Storm, Peshay, Fabio & even Goldie, Odysee was an important contributor to what was referred to as the ‘Intelligent’ movement of the mid 90’s. With early releases form iconic artists Source Direct, Mirage and the mighty Photek the label quickly earned a reputation for the quality and versatility of its releases. 
The label stopped releasing towards the end of the 90’s, but was relaunched by Tilla and Andy Odysee in 2015. Alongside a series of choice remasters & remixes from the original back catalogue, there is now a steady stream of new material being released including the Iliads series, and E.P.’s from Andy Odysee, T-Mirage and Invincible & D’Zine. Odysee has also attracted some heavyweights for remix duties including Gremlinz & Jesta, Fanu, Homemade Weapons and forthcoming reworks from ASC & Mister Shifter among others. 
With a focus on breaks heavy D&B and Jungle, the trademark sound of the label, its attention to detail on depth of production, the fusion of Jungle & D&B with Techno, avant-guarde & Film Noire soundscapes still likes at the heart of each release.

Born and bred from the streets of New Orleans, Louisiana, enter into the game, 20-year-old August Alsina...

With the love and hustle of the Crescent City running through his veins, August is eager to follow in the footsteps of the NOLA music legends that paved his way. His recently inked deal Def Jam Recordings looks to be a great step in the right direction, but music wasn’t always in his future. 

August learned at an early age that drugs and money could make you, or break you. With both his father and stepfather battling crack addiction, August’s mother moved their family to Houston, Texas in search of a fresh start. But Houston provided no happy ending. For years a young August endured a home life plagued by drugs and violence. At just 14, he got word from New Orleans that is father, August Sr., lost his battle with drugs and alcohol. 

In an attempt to escape his reality, August took to Youtube, where he posted dozens of homemade performance videos. His clips covering Musiq Soulchild, Lyfe Jennings and others went viral, generating millions of views in just over a month. It seemed that he was finally taking his first steps toward a bright future in music, but just a year later, reality hit home when his best friend was shot and killed in the streets of Houston. As quickly as August appeared, he vanished form Youtube, back to the real world. With tensions mounting at home, 16-year-old August was kicked out. Alone, he returned to New Orleans and took to the streets, selling drugs as a means of survival. 

With his older brother also in the streets hustling, it wouldn’t be long before August learned that the addiction to money could be as deadly as the addiction to drugs. Just days before August’s 18th birthday, his older brother was gunned down in New Orleans East, another unsolved murder in one of the nations most dangerous cities. “I never expected them [the police] to find his killer”, August explains. “People die everyday in the streets of New Orleans. Unfortunately, death has become a way of life,” but not for August. His brother’s death became his motivation to not become a statistic, but to pursue his musical aspirations on an entirely new level.

Under the guidance of Noontime Unlimited (management and production company), August relocated to Atlanta in 2011 to begin carving his own musical path with his life experiences at the center of his artistry. He recently teamed up with Hoodrich/MMG’s own DJ Scream for the release of his debut mixtape, ‘The Product’, which spawned the internet and radio buzzing anti-love single, “Sucka” which features fellow New Orleans crooner Lloyd. 

Yet to reach 21 years old, with already a lifetime of experiences behind him, August is living proof that your past doesn’t have to dictate your future, and that life’s hardships can be the motivation required for success. With Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter The Dream prepping August’s debut project for release through his Radio Killa/Def Jam imprint, the path to success has been laid. Look for August to make 2013 his official coming out party.


The label was established in 2018 as a means to release the back catalogue of renowned Jungle Techno label Underdog Recordings, which ran from 1993-1995. It quickly expanded from beyond the original goal and now reissues sought after, rare and classic records from the Jungle, Rave, Bleep House, Techno and Jungle Techno genres.

The Vinyl Fanatiks aim is to track down and work with the original artists from the early 1990’s, to reissue their music on vinyl only, and to support the record hunters and vinyl diggers from around the world with quality pressings and superb mastering; a way to show respect and share the story of those that created these incredible records.

The vision is not to focus on the obvious artists of that time but to dig a little deeper and find those that came and went but their legacy still holds true to this day. Some of these producers only released one record and vanished soon after but their music still resonates into the 21st century, accumulating new audiences across the globe, far beyond the catchment of the UK pirate radios and muddy fields of 25 years ago. Each record captures a moment in time, a vibe that was true and innocent from a period when music was far more synonymous with rebellion and anarchy than today’s finely polished productions and conformist club pop. This music itself bred on the outskirts of society, fuelled by the passion of the rave, its lineage stemming from the Acid House era of 1988. Often produced on minimal equipment, with minimal skills and knowledge, its audio blueprint transcends to new generations, a rawness that no expensive audio plug in could ever create in this present day.

Vinyl Fanatiks wants to pay homage to these young producers who forged the foundations of the multi-million pound EDM scene we have now. Each of these artists has their own tale to tell, their own memories to share. Limited by their own geographical status within the UK, they somehow still all managed to connect and influence each other, years before the internet, mobile phones and social media that we have today. But the music knew no limits and had no boundaries, transcending generations to this day.

Bringing The Experience Back To Music

Liftin Spirit Records was founded in 1994 by Ant Miles. The label put out a steady flow of Drum & Bass & Jungle throughout the 90's and beyond. Home to a long list of artits such as Higher Sense, Stakka & K-Tee, Moving Fusion, Andy C, Red One, Concept 2, Joint Venture and many others. 

Liftin Spirit Reloaded launched in 2019 for the labels 25th Anniversary. Featuring exclusive unreleased material from the early 90's and reissues of some of the labels earliest in demand music.
