Believe it or not but Uncanny Valley looks back on five years of releasing records this summer. There was a bit of discussion on how to celebrate this occasion properly. Instead of just turning into the typical Greatest hits-routine the label heads Albrecht, Carl, Conrad and Philipp decided to look back and forth. So, besides a record with completely new material there will be a record that unleashes four tracks from the vaults of these five years. As you can imagine, there are lots of tracks that are good too but doesn’t fit on the record in question because of the whole record’s atmosphere or just because there’s not enough space on the vinyl. But it would be a shame if those tunes stay unreleased forever. So, here’s “Uncanny Valley: Five Years On Parole - gems from the vaults”!

Clutching At Straws is a brand new label established by Brian Ring. Born in Cork, Ireland. Ring has been residing in Berlin for over 4 years, during which time he has lent his dancefloor-focused, predominantly house sounds to a range of renowned labels including Freerange. Running Back and Bordello A Parigi. A producer who values a vehement quality-over-quantity approach, Clutching At Straws represents the first time Ring has helmed his own imprint. Featuring two originals as well as a remix from London producer Kiwi, the Reflections EP is most definitely deserving of the wait.

We kick off with ‘Acid Sunrise’, a classy house cut that envelops the listener in a warm glow from the off. Full of colourful motifs throughout, it’s part acid/part Balearic-tinged sound is the perfect antidote to Europe’s current climes. Characterised by a nimble, catchy-as-hell baseline, this one is pure dynamite of the sort that will sound at its most pronounced as the first signs of morning begin to enter the dancefloor.

Next up is Kiwi, a producer who’s been making power moves of his own lately thanks to a host of well-received cuts for the likes of Jennifer Cardini’s Correspondent, Tennis’ Life & Death and Optimo’s Optimo Music. His dramatic reinterpretation of Ring’s ‘Forest Walk’ , is a highbrow gem that’s full of gorgeous melodies and all-round positive vibes, with the man in charge changing the narrative quite exceptionally toward the track’s final phases.

Culminating the record is the sounds of ‘Emergency Tool’, a real statement track that’s sure to leave DJs and dancers in a frenzy over the next few months. An upfront banger of the sort that wonderfully incorporates both house and techno elements, it starts off on a fairly innocuous tip before unfurling into an uptempo beast. Full of clever bells and a vocal that demands us to “move!” (as well as a wailing cop siren that only heightens the sense of mania), ‘Emergency Tool’ is a track that’s destined to be used by discerning DJs when they really have to step things up a notch.

Short for Bari Underground Movement, the project is a new venture from Cosmic Rhythm head honcho Nicola Loporchio and Michele Lamacchia. As the decade has rolled to a close, the ways in which fans discover music is more fractured and algorithmic than ever. Massive platforms use technology and playlists that many listeners have become reliant on to surface new and engaging tracks, and while there are still a handful of independent press outlets pushing releases from underserved artists, they are dwindling by the year. Yet in the face of a rapidly changing industry, there are still a number of even smaller collectives bucking the trend of computerized gatekeeping, thanks in no small part to the hard work and passion of like-minded individuals who care deeply and are driven to support and spread the music they love.

One such faction is the unrelenting and ever-evolving Bolting Bits, co-founded as a French language publication in 2014 by Florent Tarroux (who produces and DJs as Numea Daze) and his partner Sarah-Marie. Bringing Igor Bezuglov onboard in early 2016, together they helped Bolting Bits reach a more universal audience by transitioning their writing to the English language. Alongside a small team of rotating contributors, they've worked tirelessly to not only upload music from artists they admire, but also raise the profile of talented newcomers who are eager to share their efforts---many of whom have gone on to release on labels such as Shall Not Fade, Lobster Theremin, Feel My Bicep, and a myriad of high-profile outlets. With over 650 premieres under their belt, as well as over 100 original mixes and over 6 million plays on Soundcloud, Bolting Bits remains a beacon for the outer rims of traditional dance music, covering everything from jazz to acid to broken beat and beyond. They have thrown dozens upon dozens of parties in their local Montreal and have reached audiences across the globe (except Greenland…hurry up Greenland).

Now, Bolting Bits are extremely excited to announce their first official compilation, in partnership with renowned producers and artists who’ve been supporting and supported by the crew since the very beginning. With tracks from the likes of Jad & The, Aleksandir, Homage label owner Ryan Clover, and many others, this compilation stands as a testament to the amazing work and ethos of Bolting Bits. It will be available on both Bandcamp and the main Bolting Bits website, and will cost a minimum of 8 USD (though fans can pay-what-they-want to help further support the site)---the ultimate goal is to continue sharing amazing tunes from incredible artists to the people who care.
