In Nicky Morris's "Boy in a Tree" from her book, "Find your way-a story and Drama Resource to promote Mental health and Well being in Young People, the Boy in the story has ASD (autistic Spectrum Disorder) and "feels more at ease when sitting in the branches of the tree" (Morris,p.70,2020). 
In this piece, I wanted to explore the connections we share with others, from those moments that light up our being, on first meeting the one we will love for a lifetime, to those  times when we feel the pain of others and times when we are alone and do not connect.

I wrote the melody and the lyric back in 1992 for my wife Claire as a memory of an afternoon rowing in Norfolk, on a "voyage with Venus sitting by my side. " The original chords and musical arrangement came from Simon Ward and Tony Smith, a massive thank you to both of them and to Jon Mellor, Warwick Haycock and Paul for their backing vocals, percussion and keyboards for this version to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary.

Written as part of a project with Bill Johnson-Music for the 6th Extinction-a space opera after we've left Earth the last sound heard in space is a child's desperate cry. Many Thanks to Bill for initial production and Claire Miles for her brilliant placard and constant love and support.

In Nicky Morris's Nature's Spirits, the Fire King represents "transformational and purifying powers... it can also burn and destroy" (Morris, p.144,2020). My inspiration for Part 2 came from revisiting the devastation to  life in the Australian fires of 2020. Part 3 is a lament to lives lost for  the 1/2 billion animals that died.
