The rhythm track, an update of Alton Ellis's classic "Can I Change My Mind" featuring Sly Dunbar on drums and Donald Dennis on bass, bubbles like soup on a fire while Kayla sings about why she, Kareem "Reemus" Burrell, and the whole XTM Family are "Red Hott." Even when the Brooklyn-based singer is making moves with one of Jamaica's most respected production teams she always makes sure her "nails well done and my hair intact"—oh yeah, and she always burns "the stinkest of hash." What better way to mark the late great Phillip "Fatis" Burrell's birthday than to continue his musical legacy.

From his adopted home of Denver, Colorado, the Australian native Mr. Bill has compiled four tracks as his newest release for Gravitas Recordings, entitled “CSS 24-27”. The EP serves as part of his “Corrective Scene Surgery” series, where Bill and visual artist Funi collaborate on the release of singles which slowly unfold a story, song by song. . A polished synthesis of funky, memorable melody and imaginative sound design set the pace for this release, with each of the four tracks offering a unique glimpse of the muse which Mr. Bill draws from. This latest musical offering comes in anticipation of a 30 date tour spanning the United States and Canada, and will include Bill performing a live set with drummer Andrew Hutchings plus supporting act Circuit Bent and a custom visual production from Black Market Armoire. 4. Moyen Thyme

Another stellar example of how important having a writing buddy is. Moyen Thyme was orginally written in a hexagonal cabin in the woods of Deadwood, OR. The original song was a study in dub… but didn’t have any groove, or direction, and frankly lagged. In an effort to spice it up, I plugged Taylor through a series of insane dub effects while he played his guitar. Things kept on getting trippier… and while trying to figure out what to pair with the guitar, Jason Bailey came up. I knew Jason Bailey through his stellar stage management at What The Festival 2015, and Taylor knew Jason because he lived in Eugene before moving up to Portland. We gushed about his dulcimer playing and then we simultaneously decided that he *HAD* to play on Moyen Thyme. I got in touch with Jason, and he helped arrange a recording session at Sprout City Studios down in Eugene. Taylor remotely sent me his new arrangement of the track and it was a total banger. Jason was both the engineer for the session AND played the dulcimer. We had the help of two stellar interns Jasper and Raven… and the session finished ahead of time. With Jason’s playing the track suddenly had a life of it’s own, and is a testament to the having the right people in the right place at the right time. Moyen Thyme wouldn’t be possible without him. Thanks Jason!
