In 2008, NYC based Subatomic Sound teamed up with Vienna’s dub masters Dubblestandart to begin a series of limited edition 12” vinyl exclusives that brought together iconic originators in the history of dub reggae with the gritty underground vibes of the dubstep movement.The lead 12”, “Iron Devil”, included the first ever dubstep tracks from both Lee Scratch Perry and Prince Far-I, produced in collaboration with Dubblestandart and remixed by Subatomic Sound System and Paris’ Tom Watson.Released on hand stamped vinyl in vintage Jamaican jackets, “Iron Devil” disappeared from shelves worldwide in less than a week.In 2009, the follow up vinyl was dedicated to an explosive pairing of Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry with rising Brooklyn dancehall reggae star Jahdan Blakkamoore that revisited Perry’s ‘70s classic “Blackboard Jungle” off the seminal album of the same name, a cornerstone of dub reggae that featured Scratch and King Tubby at the controls.A shot heard round the world, this collaboration culminated that July with a capacity concert in NYC’s Central Park with Lee Perry, Dubblestandart, Subatomic Sound System, &amp; Jahdan Blakkamoore.

The third 12” in the series is entitled “Chrome Optimism” and on this release Dubblestandart brings together the most unbelievable combination yet, a world class summit of mad genius: Jamaican dub originator Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry together with iconic American filmmaker David Lynch, plus as an added bonus, famed French avant garde composer Jean-Michel Jarre. On “Chrome Optimism”, Scratch exercises his inimitable gift to juxtapose spirituality with humor through wordplay that walks a line between nonsense and profundity: “Hello, Hell is very low and Heaven is very, very high!”David Lynch responds with equally mind twisting metaphors like “Euphoric, chrome optimism” and mantras like “The ideas tell you how they want to be”, describing his powerful experience and obsession with transcendental meditation.The otherworldy melody from Jean-Michel Jarre’s famous composition “Oxygen Part 4” floats over the top. In 2008, NYC based Subatomic Sound teamed up with Vienna’s dub masters Dubblestandart to begin a series of limited edition 12” vinyl exclusives that brought together iconic originators in the history of dub reggae with the gritty underground vibes of the dubstep movement.The lead 12”, “Iron Devil”, included the first ever dubstep tracks from both Lee Scratch Perry and Prince Far-I, produced in collaboration with Dubblestandart and remixed by Subatomic Sound System and Paris’ Tom Watson.Released on hand stamped vinyl in vintage Jamaican jackets, “Iron Devil” disappeared from shelves worldwide in less than a week.In 2009, the follow up vinyl was dedicated to an explosive pairing of Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry with rising Brooklyn dancehall reggae star Jahdan Blakkamoore that revisited Perry’s ‘70s classic “Blackboard Jungle” off the seminal album of the same name, a cornerstone of dub reggae that featured Scratch and King Tubby at the controls.A shot heard round the world, this collaboration culminated that July with a capacity concert in NYC’s Central Park with Lee Perry, Dubblestandart, Subatomic Sound System, & Jahdan Blakkamoore.

The third 12” in the series is entitled “Chrome Optimism” and on this release Dubblestandart brings together the most unbelievable combination yet, a world class summit of mad genius: Jamaican dub originator Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry together with iconic American filmmaker David Lynch, plus as an added bonus, famed French avant garde composer Jean-Michel Jarre. On “Chrome Optimism”, Scratch exercises his inimitable gift to juxtapose spirituality with humor through wordplay that walks a line between nonsense and profundity: “Hello, Hell is very low and Heaven is very, very high!”David Lynch responds with equally mind twisting metaphors like “Euphoric, chrome optimism” and mantras like “The ideas tell you how they want to be”, describing his powerful experience and obsession with transcendental meditation.The otherworldy melody from Jean-Michel Jarre’s famous composition “Oxygen Part 4” floats over the top. Vienna’s Dubblestandart, NYC’s Subatomic Sound System, & Bristol’s RSD switch up the musical vibes beneath, moving from hard charging dubstep to Perry’s classic dub reggae to spacey soundscapes typical of Lynch & Jarre aesthetics.

The “Chrome Optimism” vinyl EP features two remixes from Subatomic Sound System, kicking off the A side with the first, a bombastic distorted sub-bass heavy beast that threatens to define a new genre somewhere between dubstep, dub reggae, and the twisted ambience of David Lynch’s film scores. Dubblestandart counters with a deep and minimal downtempo dub version of “Chrome Optimism” that balances on a line between a wide open David Lynch film soundtrack, the wild sound experimentalism of Perry, and Jarre’s out of body ambient melodies.

The B side of “Chrome Optimism” kicks back in full force with originator of the Bristol, UK dubstep scene, producer RSD (also known as Rob Smith of Smith & Mighty) delivering a hard hitting remix of the Perry & Dubblestandart track “I Do Voodoo”, a guaranteed sureshot to satisfy the UK dubstep crowd.Following RSD is a second Subatomic Sound System remix that brings it back to Perry’s Superape era for a rootical dubstep relick of his tune with Dubblestandart entitled “Deadly Funny” (originally also on the “Chrome Optimism” riddim), but this time revisting his classic 70s style, adding not only the ghost of Augustus Pablo on melodica, but also drums and bass big and bad enough knock out a dubstep club crowd.

These tracks bring together two eccentric legends doing what they do best on some of Scratch's classic 70s dub vibes that Subatomic Sound System pushes into the future rootical dubstep realm.  Hearing these two together, Lee Perry, originator of dub from a time before there was dubstep, and Ari Up of the Slits, leader of the first all female punk band and originator of punky reggae, from before there was a Santogold or MIA, makes you realize how it all started.

The “Hello, Hell Is Very Low” vinyl 45 features a dub and vocal take of a rootical dubstep reflip of the rare and classic “Underground Roots” riddim, known to have been used by Studio One’s Sir Coxsone Dodd’s sound system to lay waste in Jamaican sound clashes (typically played back to back with the only known vocal version, a closely guarded special rumored to have been done for Coxsone by Junior Byles). On this 45, Subatomic Sound System dubs the riddim up proper with maximum respect to the tradition of the masters, Lee Perry &amp; King Tubby, while also turning out the low end, delivering drums and bass big and bad enough knock out even a modern day dubstep club crowd. It also must be mentioned that, this is the first time EVER that Lee “Scratch” Perry and Ari Up of the Slits appear on the same recording, even though they both worked extensively on On-Sound projects with Adrian Sherwood during the 80s. The combination proves strong as they both succeed in striking a clever lyrical balance, delivering vocals that juxtapose conscious culture and spirituality with humor and wordplay.

On the A-Side, “Hello, Hello, Hell is Very Low” features tough lyrics from Lee “Scratch” Perry alongside Ari Up of the Slits and original melodica from Subatomic Sound’s Emch that summons the ghost of Augustus Pablo for some classic melodies. The dubbed out track is centered around Perry riffing on the line “Hello, Hell is very low and Heaven is very, very high!” linguistically playing off the greetings “Hello” vs. “Hi” and with the metaphysical concept of “Hell” being “lo(w)” and “Heaven” being “(hi)igh” in what is on one hand slapstick humor and on the other hand profound moral philosophizing. Ari Up meanwhile shows her respect for dub history and the people of her second home, Jamaica, with lyrics “Underground roots, what we bring to you, rub-a-dub roots, message to the youth…time to know the truth!” exorting the “underground youth” to rise up “overground” while at the same time sending a message to the dubstep generation about the origins of dub and respecting its founders.

On the B-Side, Ari-Up of the Slits delivers “Bed Athletes” a singjay vocal tune in a classic dancehall style. Lyrically she twists the original children’s song melody into a positive minded and humorous sex education course for the “underground youth”, with a verse for the men and another for the women, emphasizing the importance of physical fitness and mental training for mutual enjoyment of each others company in bed, even suggesting that men “learn Ninjitsu” so the art of “Japanese fighting” can be “used ‘pon daggering”.

‘Deliver Me’ is the monstrous new track from Reggae Roast Records and sets the tone for a string of killer new releases for 2013. A combination of the sweet vocals of Reggae Roast front man Ramon Judah with production by ‘Conscious Sound’, one of the UK’s most prolific producers over the past 20 years, this hard hitting digital stomper is sure to rock crowds in smoke filled dance-halls and festivals alike, throughout 2013. 

‘Deliver Me’ is an uptempo, hard hitting digital steppa like you have never heard. The riddim grabs you from the first moment to the last and melodic vocals of Ramon Judah perfectly compliment the dark, melancholy vibe. The track is a spiritual plea to Jah asking him for guidance away from the evils of this world. With remixes from UK Dub legend RSD (AKA Rob Smith from the production duo Smith and Mighty) + Adam Prescott and Kosine & Dialect the release is oozing with cross genre appeal.

Ramon Judah, Reggae Roast’s front man for the past 5 years finally gets his first official release on the label, and boy was it worth the wait. Hailing from Toxteth, Liverpool and son of the famous musician Sugar Dean, Ramon Judah has music in his blood and is a veteran of the UK Roots scene for more than 20 years. His outstanding release ‘Truth and Rights’ on Tuff Scout Records achieved cult classic status and he is forging a reputation as one of the UK’s finest.

Conscious Sounds AKA Bush Chemist has been at the heart of the UK Roots scene for over 20 years. He has since gone on to gain worldwide recognition for his digital roots productions. His discography reads like a who's who of the UK Reggae scene. The ‘Deliver Me’ Riddim demonstrates the sheer power of his production skills.

RSD - Rob Smith is as integral to the Bristol sound as any of his mainstream-approved counterparts. After his legendary work under the alias Smith & Mighty Sound System, RSD is once again at Bristol's cutting edge, aligning himself with the city's inventive Dubstep movement. 

Adam Prescott: Nottingham’s finest Adam Prescott, and newest member to the Reggae Roast team is one of the most exciting new producers around. Combining a crucial selection of rough and tough roots music with a modern injection of dubstep, he’s been making moves in the scene through his work with artists such as Charlie P, Brother Culture, Daddy Freddy, Johnny Osbourne & Ranking Joe. 

Kosine & Dialect: Brighton based duo Kosine & Dialect have well over 30 years experience between them in producing various genre's of music including Jungle, DnB + Dub. Having recently remixed tracks for the likes of Congo Natty + Serial Killers so expect big things for this killer combo in 2013.

Reggae Roast are building a formidable catalogue featuring some of the most exciting artists in the UK and beyond.
