Après le très attendu Zentone Chapter 2, High Tone et Zenzile ont débuté une tournée commune pour présenter l'album en concert car cet opus a été conçu avant tout pour le live. L'occasion pour le groupe d'enregistrer un EP live de l'album au Bikini à Toulouse. La sortie de cet EP clôture une tournée estivale ovationnée par le public (Atabal, Krakatoa, Elysée Montmartre, Durrassic Festial, Bougnat Festival, Tilliacum Festival, Régal Sound Festival, Les Grands Music Festival....) et amorce la tournée d'automne/hiver qui compte d'ores et déjà une quinzaine de dates à travers la France.

Retour sur l'album Zentone Chapter 2 : 

Quinze ans après, Zenzile et High Tone remettent enfin le couvert pour le très attendu Zentone Chapter 2 ! Les deux groupes de dub les plus mythiques de l’Hexagone relèvent une seconde fois le défi et nous offrent un album, co-produit par Jarring Effects et Black Dub. 

Une rencontre au sommet qui ravira tous les amateurs de dub, puisque ce n’est pas un, mais bien deux volumes qui entrent dans les bacs: un CD ambiance shanti qui regroupe les 10 mix version Zenzile et le double vinyle, conçu pour les sound system avec 12 mix version High Tone (quatre titres, leur version instrumentale et un troisième mix à la structure encore plus dub).

A l’écoute de ce nouvel opus, s’il y a un mot qui nous vient à l’esprit c’est bien « humanité ». Zentone Chapter 2 a été conçu en pleine pandémie. Les 9 musiciens se sont retrouvés à Lyon le temps d’une semaine pour une session de prises en studio. Et le moins que l’on puisse dire, c’est que cette période étrange n’a pas impacté leur créativité, loin de là ! Cette fois-ci et contrairement à 2006, ils ont décidé de travailler sans filet avec un dispositif de répétition enregistrée. Pas de chichi sur le placement des micros, pas de casque, mais bien une configuration avec sono où le live et l’improvisation étaient les maîtres-mots. Le collectif et la spontanéité sont au cœur de ce projet. Ce besoin d’humanité, on le retrouve  aussi dans la chaleur du son : l’analogique prime, adieu l’interface froide de l’ordinateur entre la musique et l’humain. 

Ce retour à la simplicité se retrouve également dans les mixs. Chacun des deux groupes a choisi de mixer les titres sur console analogique. Côté High Tone, les mixs sont plus instinctifs, les quatre lyonnais ont clairement lâché prise. Leurs mixs sont une photo de l’instant, un dub à l’ancienne aux intro retournées bien comme il faut. C’est d’ailleurs le disque qu’High Tone a le moins édité en 20 ans ! Fidèle à leur ADN, les Angevins quant à eux manient d’une main de maître l’écriture et la construction des titres. Ambiance atmosphérique garantie. 

Une autre spécificité de ce nouvel opus est la collaboration avec des chanteurs. Les voix de Nai-Jah, Jolly Joseph (Dub Shepherds), Rod Taylor et Nazamba (déjà entendu sur les riddims d’OBF) viennent enrichir les compositions. En choisissant des chanteurs qui viennent du live et du dub system, Zentone affirme sa tendance de jouer de la musique en live. Une chose est sûre, avec ce nouvel opus, le live band fait la synthèse de toutes les générations du dub. Zentone joue du dub instrumental, puis le mix avec des techniques propres au dub et ne cache pas ses inspirations de King Tubby à Prince Jammy en passant par Scientist. Mais ils intègrent aussi la nouvelle scène dub. Une scène vive, artisanale, collective, inspirée et inspirante qui n’a pas fini de faire parler d’elle.

Most fans of the blues believe it was born in the Mississippi delta shortly before 1900. They are definitevely wrong.The blues had its roots in other forms of older black music that are traced to the music of West Africa. In that sense, Mali music constituting the DNA of the blues and the griots can be identified as the direct ancestors of the rural bluesmen.Baba Sissoko is from Mali and he is the last undisputed griot alive.His voice evokes the lost vibe of the deepest and wildest side of west Africa. A magic land that he largely crossed since his childhood in singing and playing with his legendary grandfather Djeli Baba Sissoko. 

With the help of the soulful voices of Djeli Mah  Damba Koroba  and Djana Sissoko, respectively his 78 y.o. mother and his young daughter he recorded  “Three Gees”.

They are the voices of the past, the present and the future living in the twilight zone where the malian roots blooms into a new sound of hope and happiness.

Involved are also Fernando "Bugaloo" Velez on percussions and the grammy winner Corey Harris on slide guitar.

Somebody called it as Bambara Mystic Soul, we dig it and really hope you enjoy listening this album as much as we have enjoyed making it.

With his stage name coming from his love of late 60s Jamaican deejay U-Roy and his light skin, U-Brown began his deejaying career as the 1970s dawned. In the mid-70s he began working with major producer Bunny Lee, and soon got a chance to deejay on King Tubby's Hi-Fi. U-Brown's hyped-up version of U-Roy jive-saturated talkover style sounded great over the heavy dubs mixed by Tubby, and he ended up deejaying many of the top sounds in Jamaica from 1970 to 1985. He's continued to deejay and produce ever since.

In-between a few gigs with French sound system Soul Stereo, he came to the Paris DJs studio in december 2014 to cut a few new tracks with producer Grant Phabao, starting with the neo-classic 'Mr. DJ Let The Music Play', recorded on one of Phabao's biggest riddims, the 'Honey' one he had build over the Erykah Badu's hit of the same name. With its dynamic skanking and shoutouts the tune has been rocking the discerning dancehalls those last few months, getting even picked by DJ Craig Charles (BBC6) as one of the Biggest Funk and Soul Stompers from 2015!

U-Brown's unmistakeable deejay flow with a stylistic debt to the deejay godfather U-Roy is a delectation to hear voiced and mixed with Grant Phabao at the controls once again on this follow-up single: a heavy, bubbling, slow and fat, masterful one drop riddim from the Parisian producer, on which the veteran deejay lays a a deep and sensual rub-a-dub toast. Hopefully both tunes will end up on a lovely 7 inch vinyl, in the 'Vinyl Is Good For You Vol.2' boxset of 45s Paris DJs has started working on...
