Having been part of the family for quite some time now, Lauren Bush aka re:ni joins the Timedance roster with an incredibly potent quartet of Techno infused bass-bin weaponry.

« BeautySick » sees re:ni plunging into a world of intoxicating serpentine grooves. Spectral vocal slabs chime like echoes of a distant hallucinatory trance, while industrial drumworks find a mesmerizing counterpoint in eerie dubwise atmospheres.

These four compositions not only showcase re:ni's evolution but also explore themes of confidence and feminine power, as well as the transient moments where darkness converges with light. They stand as a testament to the sonic prowess of one or favorite dancefloor sorceress.

Picture Hakime Sorayama’s ‘Sexy Robot’ in front of an unreasonably large stack of speakers at a dimly lit sound-system dance; this is the soundtrack.

In the words of Scott Zacharias, who closed the Outer Space Room at No Way Back, May 25, 2025, Day 2 of Return to the Source at Tangent, Detroit:

“NWB, being more than just the sum of its parts, always reflects my current life state(or lack of) and this year was no different. My friend Zach reminded me of this ultra-special cut by Arthur Russell: “In the Light of the Miracle.” It’s one of those holy grails and this mix (by Danny Krivit & Tony Smith) only existed as unreleased Talking’ Loud promo until a Soul Jazz comp finally issued it properly in 2005. I used to run it occasionally some 20 years ago, but hearing it again left me shook and set the stage for my entire set. And the rest of my life. My partner Ellen and I learned we were pregnant that same weekend.

Completely overwhelmed, I felt like I just wanted to share music for folks like I do in my own living room. Not really as a mix, but an intimate family affair. In the wee hours of the morning when I finally decided to share Russell’s opus, Ellen joined me on stage. We embraced and cried as we saw all our friends dancing in a now sunlit room.

"This No Way Back stream was the first time I’ve performed a set from my home studio. When I was first planning this set, before the pandemic really hit hard, I had kind of a different idea in mind. I was planning something more sample-driven, less melodic. And although I would’ve deeply preferred to be in Detroit for No Way Back in-person under normal circumstances, the fact that I ended up performing from my studio meant I had all of my synthesizers there to use, including the larger ones that I don’t normally have in my live rig like the Prophet-6. I decided to take advantage of that, and the resulting set took kind of a different turn. This set includes some of the music that’s coming out later this year on my album with Mysteries of the Deep. I hope you enjoy."
