Physical Education is proud to have Len Lewis back. This time with the reissue of his early 2000s Joy / Skip Up release. A hard to find record released back in the day in a small run press coming out again right in time for summer.

A side's Joy is a beautiful cut of deep tech house with lovely strings and swinging toms signature of the Swag Records affiliate. While the B side includes 2 versions of Skip Up, both are a perfect hybrid between modern deep house and breaks characteristic from that era.

Welcome to the first mix from The Funk Assassin's worldwide series of Funks with an easy listening, warm, groovy and upbeat vibe from start to finish.

This is also a tribute to Tony Pike.

We start off in funky Amsterdam where you will be taken on a journey through the sounds of the mega funky Dutch Psychedelic Funk scene from the late 60's into the 70's and early 80’s pushing the boundaries of the analog sound; completely way ahead of it's time, you have to listen to believe it. 

The depth on the bass in particular is extraordinary.

Expect ridiculously funky beats and bass lines with a myriad of trippy organs, sexy flutes, sultry sitars and tight percussion.

Since the mix contains music recorded in analog, the raw sounds of the time and the organic feel of the music comes through as the mix progresses; full of pure Soul.

Welcome to the Word Is Love Soul & Funk Show where this time we will be looking at the music of Soul Train. 

In the mix we will explore tracks by Chic, James Brown and Larry Levan plus a number of artists who appeared on the Soul Train.

Expect funky beats and bass lines with a myriad of soulful vocals, sultry saxaphones, sexy flutes, sleazy synths and tight percussion.

Soul Train was an American music variety television show, the first to prominently feature African American musical acts and dancers. Broadcast nationally from 1971 to 2006, it was one of the longest-running syndicated programs in American television history.

Soul Train was the brainchild of Chicago radio announcer Don Cornelius. It initially aired in 1970 on Chicago television station WCIU-TV. The show was produced in hour-long segments five afternoons a week and became a local television hit. It duplicated the environment of a dance club and featured a variety of noted musical performers as well as both professional and amateur dancers.

Soon Soul Train drew the interest of George Johnson, founder and president of Johnson Products Company (a black-owned hair-product manufacturer), whose support enabled the program to move into national syndication in 1971. The success of Soul Train reflected the rise and popularity of soul music and funk artists on recordings and radio programs.

By presenting an image of black culture as upbeat, exciting, and vibrant, Soul Train attracted many viewers of other ethnicities and contributed to the growing prestige of African Americans and black culture in mainstream America. Cornelius maintained control of the Soul Train brand until his death and produced several successful annual specials, including the ongoing Soul Train Music Awards.

This mix explores the sound of Soul Train throughout the 70's and 80's.

Welcome to the 'Sampled By' Daft Punk mix.

This mix explores the influences of Daft Punk using funky music from the 70's, 80's, 90's and 00's that influenced their biggest hit's.

For those who don't already know, Daft Punk are a French electronic music duo formed in Paris in 1993 by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter.

Their popularity grew in the late 1990's as part of the French house movement, combining elements of house music with funk, techno, disco, rock, and synthpop.

They wear fancy helmets and gloves to assume robot personas.

This is a fan created mix with fan created artwork to celebrate the genius of Daft Punk and is free for everyone to listen to and enjoy.
