Manche steuerten in der Vergangenheit eher langsamere, manche schnellere Tracks bei. Manche verträumte, manche druckvollere. Im Grunde ist jede Stimmung möglich, insofern dieser zu Afterhour Sounds passt. So auch dieses Mal...

Anregungen zum Track:
“Desperate Sea” war der Versuch unsere verschiedenen Stile zusammenzuführen und ist das Ergebnis einer halbjährigen Zusammenarbeit von drei Freunden. Der Track selbst wurde produziert in einer stürmischen ungewissen Zeit. Er verbindet Harmonie mit Melancholie.

Da die Compilation “for free” ist, können wir keinen Künstler monetär entlohnen. Wir verstehen uns von Anfang an (seit 2012) als Supporter der Szene und haben seit jeher verschiedene aufstrebende Künstler unterstützt und auch einen Teil zu ihrem Erfolg beigetragen. Dies bedeutet, wir haben und werden nie Geld für beispielsweise Premieren, Reposts etc. nehmen. Selbst auf eigene Spendenaufrufe während der Covid-Pandemie verzichten wir im ersten Jahr vollkommen. Ganz im Gegenteil. Wir selber unterstützen immer wieder angeschlagene Club- und Festivalbetreiber, sowie andere ehrenamtliche, sozial ausgerichtete NGO’s. 

Daher ist unsere neuste Compilation als “Free Download” mit freiwilliger Spende gedacht. Hierzu könnt ihr den unten aufgeführten PayPal Link benutzen. Das Geld soll zum einen für die Deckung der entstandenen Kosten (Betrieb und Mastering) eingesetzt werden, als auch zur Spende für das Projekt “Blind-Spots”, welches wir unter vielen aktuell als sehr unterstützungswürdig halten und während der Corona Pandemie vollkommen aus dem gesellschaftlichen Bewusstsein verschwunden ist.

Leaving Laurel and Anjunadeep warmly welcome Daniel Avery for his label debut with his remix of ‘Winter In The Woods’. A star of the UK underground scene, Daniel honed his craft as a resident at London’s iconic Fabric nightclub, before he turned his hand to production, finding his rock-infused techno sound championed by legendary tastemakers Andrew Weatherall and Erol Alkan. He has since released a string of studio albums, winning acclaim from Pitchfork, The Guardian, BBC6Music and Resident Advisor.

The first single off Leaving Laurel’s debut self-titled LP, 'Winter In The Woods' was written during a transitional period for the band as they departed from Laurel Canyon to their respective homes in the north. Avery builds on the warmth of the original, bending and twisting the melodies until they’re reminiscent of old home videotapes, and adding characteristically cavernous drums and percussion to create an all-enveloping soundscape. Speaking on the remix, Avery noted his affinity to the original music and what this album had come to represent:

“I hadn’t touched a remix for a long time and had no real intention of doing so before Leaving Laurel got in touch. They wrote with a passion I could feel ran throughout their music and I was proud of the version I handed back to them. Tragically, several months later we were told the news that Pierce from the band had passed away following a long struggle with his mental health. Time stands still in those moments. I’m happy to play a small part in this project which, alongside honoring Pierce’s life, hopes to shine a light on normalizing vulnerability and mental health discussions in society, particularly amongst men. Love to Gordon, the Yellow Tulip Project, and everyone involved in this release. Love to you, Pierce - we’re playing this one extra loud for you xx,” Daniel says.

For Pierce and Gordon of Leaving Laurel, their music is a story of an old friendship that over many years, almost accidentally, blossomed into a musical collaboration.  Friends on the internet first, and eventually roommates in Los Angeles, the pair spent years together making their own separate brands of dance music, long before ever collaborating with one another. Gordon was one-half of bass-heavy duo Botnek, whilst Pierce found fame and toured the world with his solo project.

Pierce always envisioned the music they made together in California as an album, and after having released many of their early songs over the past year on Anjunadeep, they set out to finish everything they had started during that time. In revisiting the rest of their ideas from that era, they had realized - it all felt like one moment in time. One feeling. One chapter.

Pierce passed away in April of this year after a tragic struggle with his mental health. This album is dedicated to his memory and has come to represent much more than two friends making music together in the Laurel Canyon neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Acclaimed Japanese-American producer Qrion proudly announces her debut album ‘I Hope It Lasts Forever’, out October 29 via independent record label Anjunadeep. The album announcement comes alongside the release of the first single ‘Your Love’, out now.

Qrion, real name Momiji Tsukada, wrote ‘I Hope It Lasts Forever’ primarily during the lockdown in San Francisco. ‘I Hope It Lasts Forever’ invokes the emotions Tsukada felt during her adventurous move from hometown Sapporo to sunny San Francisco and pays homage to Tsukada’s memories of her childhood and her father. Tsukada presents a versatile collection of electronica and club tracks, with introspective cuts like ‘It’s All Over’ and ‘Maybe It Was Already Here’ appearing alongside lively club anthems such as ‘11-11’ and ‘Proud’. The album also notably features collaborations with talented British musician Flownn, Canadian vocalist and composer Kroy, and California’s Mars Kasei.

Speaking on the record, Tsukada highlighted the importance of nostalgia in its creation: “I connected with my old memories - the feelings of spending time with my Dad, the time I lived with my family in Japan, and the small but important moments of my life from my life in Sapporo.” In creating the album, the artist found it a cathartic process as it helped her to piece together memories she buried so deep, unearthing them as she sat down to work on the music. She continues, “I feel music often creates a bridge to access memorable parts of our lives and in this sense ‘I Hope It Lasts Forever’ is a very personal and special album to me. My hope is that my music and this album will also become part of other people’s memories - something that people can carry with them into the future.”

‘I Hope It Lasts Forever' is the latest triumph in a career that’s seen Qrion release on legendary imprints Mad Decent, Last Night on Earth, and This Never Happened. Named on Forbes Japan’s 30 Under 30, the producer has garnered notable support from the likes of Mixmag, Billboard and The Fader in just a short space of time. Now armed with her debut 12-track album, Qrion draws inspiration from far-reaching corners of the electronic music sphere - from the likes of Overmono, Bonobo, and Calibre, to her unashamed love of trance and EDM with artists such as Above & Beyond, Deadmau5, and Skrillex.

The first single taken from the album, ‘Your Love’, features Qrion’s characteristic pulsating bass alongside staccato plucks and evocative vocal chops. The track joins Tsukada’s acclaimed catalogue that has seen support by the likes of Danny Howard at BBC Radio 1 and Jason Bentley at KCRW, as well as prolific producers such as TSHA, Moon Boots, Lane 8, The Aston Shuffle, 3LAU, and Gorgon City. Having shared the stage with Above & Beyond, Porter Robinson, Deadmau5, and Tourist, Qrion now takes to the road with her own headline tour across North America in support of the album.
