Every time Guy J releases his solo material on Lost & Found, the world of music lovers is ready for a treat. He's not only one of the leaders of the global scene but a musical innovator pushing the limits of studio techniques and borders of abstract emotional content. His latest conceptual masterpiece consists of two tracks ranging in length from over 7 to almost 11 minutes and a total run time of over 18 minutes. The opening track, Last Standing, blends the progressive motifs with an out-of-this-world anthemic breakdown. The piece is simultaneously melodic and nostalgic but manages to deliver a new, previously unheard edge to the technical execution of the production. The closing track, Fire, uses temperamental arpeggio resonances, constructing a mystical soundscape for a joyride into a higher state of perception. Guy’s sonic skills work as a hypnotic tool. Premiere: Berni Turletti - Prana Vayu [EDGE]

Scaling the heights with the soaring “Levera | Agmoli” in September 2022, Jiminy Hop continued his impressive relationship with Meanwhile. Now returning to the EP, a pair of remixes from the Australian label heads and a Dutch icon continue the story.

Revitalised after a European tour and sold-out label showcase at ADE 2023, GMJ & Matter continue to ride the crest of a tidal wave of success. Founded upon a distinctive and evergreen production sound, the duo’s music continues to make waves of its own reaching dancefloors across the world, supported by global DJ A-listers. Moreover, the duo’s output on Meanwhile has seen a raft of original work since April 2020 in the shape of three original EPs, plus remixes for Roger Martinez, Simos Tagias, Rich Curtis and Alex O’Rion. Fresh from October 2023’s “Arkeron” on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music, GMJ & Matter return to their spiritual home with a typically inspiring remix of “Levera”. Anchored by a kick full of heavyweight power, a rolling groove easily filters into the sonic frame as familiar percussive tropes from the original echo across the 8-minute piece. Evolving in dark and brooding majesty, a cadenced bassline adds weight and club-friendly hypnotism before a siren-filled breakdown heralds a third movement that brings in subtle variation, arpeggiated motifs and an immaculately blended central melodic riff from Jiminy Hop’s track. The result is another 24-carat gold remix that showcases GMJ & Matter’s talent to its fullest.

An artist at the vanguard of progressive house for over 15 years, Alex O’Rion continues to find himself much in-demand. From early outings on Black Hole focusing on trance, Alex’s work for Sudbeat Music, The Soundgarden and his own newly minted Solis Records has crystallised into a sumptuous deep progressive house sound. A regular on Meanwhile with a raft of original and remix work, May 2021’s 4-track “Echium” and August 2022’s “Solis / Pluvia / Sericum” EPs have lit up the label. Following on from remixes for GMJ & Matter and Rich Curtis, Alex O’Rion now delivers a typically smooth and effervescent reworking of “Agmoli”. A chest-thumping kick and clicking top-line supply head-shaking groove as familiar refrains from the original shimmer across the mid-range pre-breakdown. Through a sublime melodic narrative, a cast of characters both old and new, showcase O’Rion’s production talents as jagged analogue synth phrases coruscate in complex patterns, interwoven with arpeggiated patterns from Jiminy Hop’s track. Full of sonic intrigue and a palette of mellifluous sequences, the remix hits glorious heights post-breakdown as the full combination of bass, rhythm and melody combine to wondrous effect.

Through a pair of new remixes Jiminy Hop’s “Levera / Agmoli” continues to sparkle in brilliant sonic colours courtesy of GMJ & Matter and Alex O’Rion.

Argentina is a country with a celebrated progressive house heritage. One of the key figures at the inception of the movement was Marcelo Vasami. First hitting the scene in 2005, the Buenos Aires-based artist quickly became one of the genre's most recognizable names, eventually showcasing his music on Sudbeat and Hope Recordings. He continues to be one of his country's most popular DJs, having shared the stage with Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Guy J and Replug label boss Cid Inc. Having debuted on Replug in 2011, Marcelo now makes a long overdue return with a brand new EP entitled 'A Fantastic Fear Of Everything'.

Original music from Marcelo has been scarce as of late, with his last project (a collaboration with fellow countryman Nicko Izzo) being released well over a year ago on Nick Warren's Hope Recordings. 'A Fantastic Fear Of Everything' couldn't arrive with more anticipation and points to being the Argentine's career best work.  Entrancing soundscapes combined with a sub heavy groove and strong rhythmic elements set the piece in motion. Fading to prominence, a tasteful arp naturally evolves, allowing you to get lost in a sea of cosmic vibrations. Chilling moods resonate at the core of the centrepiece, building slowly with charismatic charm, before a rush of percussion sparks a powerful drop and seductive finale.

Returning once again to his esteemed imprint is Henri Hurtig aka Cid Inc, who provides the lone interpretation of 'A Fantastic Fear Of Everything'. An eventful summer saw the Finnish artist with EPs on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Replug Records, the latter of which is still enjoying time in Beatport's progressive house chart, now four months after its release. Cid Inc's vivid imagination and uncanny sense of club dynamics brings 'A Fantastic Fear Of Everything' even closer to a peak time dance floor. The ebb and flow of its energy is engaging, as a rolling full bodied groove, redemptive rhythms and avant-garde sci-fi textures unite in perfect harmony for this synth-driven scorcher. Already a highlight in Cid Inc's recent sets across the world, it's now set to be one of the biggest and most sought after progressive house tracks as 2017 winds to a close. 

The companion piece 'Plot' showcases a deeper, darker side of Marcelo's studio repertoire. Quirky, tough and a touch subversive it's an interesting contrast in mood and design. Primed for dance floor destruction, its funked-up progressive attitude is powerful with enticing strokes, buzzing effects and ghostly vocals adding their own melancholic touch. It perfectly completes the release which now sits as Marcelo's most accomplished work to date.

2019 was a good year for Matias, will releases for Balkan Connection, Soundteller, Onedotsixtwo and more, plus a coveted addition to the Patrice Baumel Global Underground mix, the first City Series compilation in 4 years. To add to this, he’s had a busy year of gigs and strong support from Spotify, so 2020 looks like it’ll be even bigger. 

Opening with ‘Red Line’ we are quickly whisked away with rolling bass and hats, underpinned by surefooted kicks. Bass pressure increases organically as soundscape pads glisten on this new school meets old groovathon. ‘Watergate’ follows apace. Tribal rhythms from the outset make way for a strong percussive underbelly and delicate sonics. Mind music at its devastating finest. Finally, ‘Analog Ghosts’ rounds out a fascinating triple-header. Powerful and melodic, the ethereal vocals and 80s-inspired pads create otherworldly mindscapes.
