Making his debut on the label, Clyve joins us with a classy double header. 

Hailing from the island of Malta, Clyve is no stranger to the sounds of electronic music. Breaking onto the scene at the turn of the century as a techno DJ, his tastes have matured in recent times towards a more melodic style. His productions have started to make waves on the scene since 2021, and he’s quickly found his footing with releases on Plattenbank, Mango Alley and more, proving that he’s an artist with a lot to say who lets the music do his talking.

His first EP on Sudbeat opens with ‘Lights at Night’. Deeply intricate and ultimately satisfying, much like his incendiary DJ sets, a considered build up and subtle melodics have made this a secret weapon in progressive house dance floors for many months already.

‘Mirage in a Cloud’ rallies to round out the pack with aplomb. Wildly danceable and more upbeat than its partner, the percussive underbelly acts as the perfect framework for orchestral lines, arps and vocal adlibs. A fitting end of the night rabble-rouser of a tune.

An artist at the centre of the underground dance scene for almost 20 years and with over 400 production credits to his name, Alex O’Rion has been a Meanwhile regular, most notably with his landmark four-track “Echium” EP in May 2021. A trio of remixes for Rich Curtis and GMJ & Matter themselves bookend a powerful portfolio on the label. Similarly, Ezequiel Arias has found himself at the vanguard of the modern progressive house movement with his standout work for a host of blue-chip imprints including Anjunadeep, Sudbeat Music and Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden. Now making his Meanwhile debut, Arias joins forces with Alex O’Rion as the duo showcase “Solis”.

“Pluvia” sees Alex O’Rion back on solo duties as a chunky beat and swung offbeat hi-hats create the perfect environment for crackling effects and pitched synths to flow in sparkling patterns against a backdrop of white-noise risers. Evolving with ease, subtle melodies play off each other in fluid rivulets of sound. Metallic wind chimes echo in random patterns as a smorgasbord of sound effects give the sonic impression of falling rain in a sparking track.

Commencing transmissions for this initial broadcast, 'Meloram' manifests undulations that fluctuate over a dense low-end as aqueous melodic spheres levitate suspended, defying gravity, expanding and bloating before bursting into a most entrancing sequence. With every chord progression, a chemical reaction occurs, offsetting a euphoric sense of effervescence as we gravitate in unison with each melodic impulse for a rapturous breakdown that challenges the very laws of physics. Paul Deep continues developing his repertoire and returns to the label with 'Mind Destructor'.

Its been a busy few years for the Argentinian artist since his last appearance in 2020. Signings to The Soundgarden, Mango Alley and Tale&Tone have kept his diverse fanbase, including high profile stars such as Eelke Kleijn and Maceo Plex, updated. 

Opening with the tough chunky groove of 'Mind Destructor', were quickly up to speed. Content to find its place on the floor and slowing intensify, the track grows organically over the first half with subtle synth lines powering forward. In the break, they reach fever pitch before the beat drops and room erupts, arms aloft. 

'Amenotejikara' takes a deeper, more melodic path. Airy atmospheres and percussive energy lead the way as synths creep into earshot adding tension. The ebb and flow of the arps gives palpable release to the tension. A true progressive earworm.  

Rounding out the EP, 'Indigo' continues the subtle carnival flavours with a groovy bongo-led closer. A more pronounced bassline from the drop, gritty saw-toothed edginess bites in the low end as one-shots and an eerie vocal provides high frequency ear candy.

[...]A Meanwhile regular, April 2021's "Dunes at Dawn" EP and a pair of remixes sees Sebastian Sellares returns to the label after February 2022's remix of Alex O'Rion's "The Serpent". Reworking the title track, the Argentinean star makes intelligent use of the themes resonating through "Sami" as a hypnotic rhythmic bedrock provides the perfect foundation for smooth melodic lines to flow gently across the piece. Trademark motifs and counterpoint phrases swell gently towards a rousing breakdown, where new melodies and additional production material converge in a wondrous sonic storm. Melody and rhythm then combine in the second half to mesmerising effect.

Argentinean artist Ezequiel Arias has enjoyed a litany of successes across his now decade-long career. As a perennial staple in the sets of progressive music tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, the Cordoba resident has emerged as one of the genre’s elite producers in recent years. Anjunadeep, Odd One Out, Replug and Sudbeat have been recent vehicles for his groovy sounds, while his highly regarded DJ sets continue to see him grace some of world's trendiest venues and festivals. As a regular contributor to our series, Ezequiel has taken to editing and remixing iconic tracks from 16 Bit Lolitas, Active Child and most recently Sasha’s titanic take on Unkle’s ‘In A State’. Continuing to search for new pieces to put his elusive stamp on, Ezequiel took to editing Jody Barr’s ‘Accidental Lovers’ earlier this year. Famed for being selected to Sasha’s ‘LUZoSCURA’ project and featuring the vocals of Felicia Douglass, Ezequiel edited the emotive breakbeat piece into a slice of progressive house heaven.
