Diving deep into the heart of underground sonics, Defrostatica Records, the Leipzig-based beacon of cutting-edge sound, presents a stunning fusion of genres in their latest offering. Since its inception in 2015, the label has boldly navigated the realms of Footwork, Juke, Jungle, and Ghettotech; now embarking on a soulful exploration with the "Waves EP" by powerhouse duo, Arcane & Jon1st.

Scheduled for release on May 3rd, the "Waves EP" marks an evocative journey through the soundscapes of Chicago's Juke and Footwork, juxtaposed with Bristol's signature jungle breakbeat.

‘Keepsake’ introduces listeners to the record with an energetic blend of grungy, ethereal elements, showcasing Henry’s artistic flair. The track seamlessly intertwines dreamlike atmospheres with raw textures, contrasting these layers with intense drum-driven drama, tying it all together to offer a preview of the musical landscape set to define the entirety of the record.

The enigmatic soundscape of ‘Cafe Boogaloo’ carefully warps an unmistakable garage arrangement into an eclectic and hypnotic journey. As the track progresses it embraces the unconventional, introducing a disjointed groove that gradually sinks you further and further into it, defying categorisation and serving as a testament to the creative possibilities within electronic music.

‘Get The Hell Out’ is a formidable force of relentless rhythms that disregard all agreements. The integration of intense drum work with melancholic undertones opposes listeners as it bulldozes along, emerging not only as a force that invites exploration, but also as one that commands your attention - capturing the essence of its title.

In its final notes, ‘Cafe Stalker’ prioritises sound design over club functionality in order to instill a feeling of unease and suspense, crafting an atmosphere of palpable tension and lurking dread. The deliberate pace of the track trudges along, deftly building tension until it inevitably brings the record to a grinding halt.

The digital bonus offers a deconstructed version of ‘Get The Hell Out’ through a 2-step rendition, reminiscent of the iconic days of Big Apple Records and its influence. This interpretation remains faithful to the original composition’s substance and rhythm, merging the nostalgia of early rave culture with Henry’s modern-day touch.

DjBadshape met Sinistarr at the 2023 Movement Festival, where he was playing on the Detroit stage, and it was then that she became fascinated by Torpor, originally released on his Everything On Time EP in 2019. Her 170 bpm remix adds a new dimension to the original, replacing the melancholy synths with an autonomic drum and bass vision.

Sun People is one of the few modern producers with an unmistakable signature sound. For more than a decade, the Austrian has seemingly effortlessly pursued the plan of developing a soulful minimalism in the field between footwork, jungle and techno, creating moments of bliss for listeners and dancers.

His third EP on Defrostatica emphasizes the contrast between footwork grooves - as in After The End - and spiraling drum techno patterns on 160 beats per minute like in Forward.
