Philadelphia native Squidbrain is a multifaceted producer whose latest release is a rowdy and bass-calibrated club jaunt with catchy vocal chop-ups, adventurous sound design, and nods to classic bmore and footwork for maximum floor crushability. 
 "Cattivaragazza" shows the indelible influence of Chicago footwork and rings with 90s staples like ravey pads, G-funk leads, and a foreigner that sounds like Fran Drescher.  All of these conspire in a torrent of frenetic percussion to blow the dance floor up like the giant blue laser that blew up the stripper on top of the skyscraper in Independence Day. Info: In a new release series, Defrostatica is thrilled to showcase up-and-coming producers who are inspired by jungle, footwork, juke, and techno to create their own unique sound for the club at 160 beats per minute.

Portway & Slinki's 'Move' builds on a Latin piano before turning into a monster percussion beat, only to change again on the second drop as a big synth releases the tension.

On 'Madder', the Danish duo Hone Sound skillfully weaves atmospheric pads into a perfectly rolling jungle breakbeat.

Juke Joint co-founder Team GB from Manchester flexes his production skills around the serious call to 'Jiggle Like Jello' on a jacked bass line.

Sun People is one of the few modern producers with an unmistakable signature sound. For more than a decade, the Austrian has seemingly effortlessly pursued the plan of developing a soulful minimalism in the field between footwork, jungle and techno, creating moments of bliss for listeners and dancers.

His third EP on Defrostatica emphasizes the contrast between footwork grooves - as in After The End - and spiraling drum techno patterns on 160 beats per minute like in Forward.

It was a warm summer evening in Croatia. The sun had almost completely disappeared behind the mountains, and everything around was bathed in a soft golden-pink light. Charlie and I were walking up a broken road, heading back to change our beach-damp clothes into evening festival outfits, laughing about something.

Suddenly, a strange buzzing, whirring sound came from above my right ear, and I stopped near a tall, flowering plant. The sound ceased, then returned for a brief moment. I looked closer at the flowers and saw a tiny creature with a long proboscis, resembling a little bird.

“Whoa, what is that? Hummingbirds don’t live in Croatia!” I exclaimed, pulling my phone out of my bag to capture the creature on camera.

“I think that’s not a bird. It’s probably some kind of unusual moth,” Charlie replied.

“Who are you, a moth or a hummingbird?” I asked the creature.

It sipped a bit more nectar, quickly hovering around the last few flowers. Then it flew a little higher, made a few circles around us, and disappeared.

“It really is a moth! I’ve never seen one like that before"

“Me neither. We’ll have to look them up online later"

Bennelux, a duo consisting of Lux Familiar and Benncart has come a long way since kicking off their series of footwork EP's over a year and half ago. While honing their production skills with every release they have managed to receive much acclaim and support by the likes of Addison Groove, Om Unit or Traxman. Shortwhile after dropping the third installment, the Polish Juke members are back with the final part. Arguably their finest offering to date, "4/4" focuses on a more melodic spectrum of the fast-pasted, bass-oriented music native to the city of Chicago. The EP opens with "Knockin' Doors Down (Deep Burnt)", which utilizes a Freddie Hubbard sample used famously in a beloved deep house classic "Deep Burnt" by Pepe Bradock. Complex arrangment, ever-changing rhythmic patterns and a cavalcade of sounds lifted from numerous sources make up one of Bennelux's most impressive tracks. "Whatcha Need?" follows with a similar, laid-back vibe, combining beefed-up drums with a chilled out sample and vocal chops, making it a track suitable for both club and home environments. "Together" is a hard-hitting footwork take on 1995 Omni Trio track of the same name, ready to set off any dance floor on fire. The climatic finale comes with "(We Will Be Here) Forever" , a deep mixture of dreamy chords, loads of low end and KRS-One vocal samples, which make a bold statement about the duo's plans for the future. Now, after their four-part series has come to an end, Benncart and Lux will focus on finishing their album, for which every fan of footwork music should be on the lookout for.
