Finally out is this eagerly-awaited release of SUNANDBASS Recordings, Hits Me In Waves EP by Mark System. Friends and close members of the SAB family know it's been brewing for the last decade, appearing in bits in aftermovies and we are beyond excited to now share it with the world.

‘Hits Me In Waves’ captures the exhilarating experience of being inspired musically, truly  falling in love at iconic La Cinta Beach while having fun in the crystal clear waters - all at the same time. Thus, each track of the EP explores a wide range of emotions and moods, expressed in multiple styles within drum & bass; the lead single ‘On An Island’, sets the tone with unmatched sound design, rich musical elements, and raw, uncompromising production. Next comes ‘Point Of Reference’, built for the dancefloor and eternally young in its refined appeal. ‘Celebration’ follows, a powerful track that ties the listening journey together, pairing heavy low-end weight with slick musicality to keep it both melodic and full of energy. ‘Where’s The Dog’ stands out for its playability and tough bass synthesis, making it the hardest-hitting cut on the record. Closing the EP is the beautiful and introspective ‘Started At The End’, a deep dive into Mark’s musical mind, offering a classic, emotive finale.

Hits Me In Waves is more than just a collection of tracks, it’s a reflection of Mark’s long-standing relationship with SUNANDBASS and our shared vision for music that speaks to the soul and stands the test of time. Lynx cracks open another chapter of Detail Recordings history with ‘Vault 4’, a collection of rebuilt Drum & Bass treasures pulled from deep inside the archives. At the heart of it sits ‘Welcome to the Future’, a long time favourite that Lynx and Kemo toured way back in 2007.

Now fully reborn with fresh production and modern engineering, this version finally hits the world in its definitive form. It has that classic Lynx snap, all groove, attitude and forward motion, built for basements, rooftops and any dancefloor that loves a bit of raw energy.

Lynx & Kemo Ft Hellrazor 'Welcome To the Future' [Detail Recordings] *PREMIERE*

Lynx drops ‘Vault 4’, a milestone release marking fifteen years of Detail Recordings, and tucked inside is something truly special. ‘PTO’, his collaboration with the late Marcus Intalex, finally sees the light after being written back in 2009 during a Manchester studio link up while Lynx was planning his Soul:R album launch.

The pair joked at the time that the tune felt a bit plain, which inspired the title, but hearing it now, it feels beautifully aged and full of character. With the blessing of Marcus’s mum, Pat, ‘PTO’ lands as one of the most meaningful moments on the entire project.

‘Vault 4’ gathers unreleased work from across two decades, rebuilt and remastered for today’s Drum & Bass heads, with extra appearances from Bagshot, Radzta and CutKeyLow.

RIP Jamie Rennie. One of the warmest and kindest men I’ve ever met.

My thoughts are with Lindsey and his family at this sad time.

I first met Jamie through doing my Stretch Disco nights with Gawain at Band on the Wall. Jamie attended every event that we did, he loved them. When our funding stopped, Jamie generously offered to help keep our night going. We booked Psychemagik for their Manchester debut - at Night & Day Café in 2012, which was a fantastic night. The last Stretch Disco event was at Eurocultured, when I distinctly remember Jamie dancing to my set and smiling throughout Inspector Norse.

Jamie was always so very encouraging about what I was doing. His belief and positivity meant so much to me!
It was such an honour to be asked to DJ at his 60th birthday party at the Roadhouse. Because it was Jamie, with his family and friends… the atmosphere was so warm and vibrant; a real testament to him. Again, Jamie’s positivity rubbed off on me, as I felt confident and relaxed as I stepped up to the decks.... I had a lot of fun playing the music that I knew Jamie loved. In my 25 years of DJing, that night has always been THE highlight for me.

In the following years, I’d see Jamie at many of the best nights around Manchester. I’d always enjoy catching up with him. Jamie had fascinating tales that reverberated with me… He grew up in Old Trafford, went to the same school as my kids, and played in the same parks as them. He told of the huge run tallies he scored, playing cricket in Hullard Park. As a teen he’d climb down the drainpipe of his house on Park Ave, to sneak off and go to The Reno nightclub. He told of the shebeens or blues parties on Henrietta Street, and of the OT community spirit back then. He was always happy to hear that the spirit was still strong, through all the friendships my family had forged through the school he went to.

I do feel sad that I haven’t seen Jamie in several years, but we kept in touch via facebook. Jamie always asked after Naomi and the kids. He often mentioned the mix I recreated of the set I played on his 60th. The last time we spoke he told me that he and his friends were still listening to it.

So in honour of this wonderful human, I’ve re-upped Jamie’s mix (Graffiti artwork by his son, Jamie). Maybe when the time feels right, press play and raise a sambuca to our Jamie. X #legend
