Welcome to the fourth chapter of the ELASTE series!
In this compilation I am progressing a style I am inaugurating: Vintage Futurism.

The best metaphor for this genre is Charanjit Singh's 1982 album Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat in which he created a sound which mirrors, but more importantly pre-dates, the first acid house record by five years. It is no novelty record, but truly capturing the hypnotic potential of acid/house music. It became my key track for Elaste Volume 4.
Previous incarnations of Elaste have aimed to catch the spirit of the late 70’s Italian Cosmic Discotheque, a place where the history of DJing was rewritten within this microcosm. For this latest instalment I was most intrigued by weird of-the-time (or ‘out-of’ as the case turned out to be) electronic disco, a vast genre!

Bringing together those progressive avant-garde tracks that were expanding the genres of house, disco, acid, new wave; and ultimately use Elaste as a vehicle to highlight those tracks that were ahead of their time. These legendary works ranges from 1978 to 1996, a wide spectrum of musical history, in which some of the older tracks may sound modern, and newer ones sound may sound vintage.

Many of these authentic back-to-the-aural-future moments were initial sparks for whole genres - Larry Heard ́s Disco-D alias happened just before house music. Greg Wilson’s 1984 project Equip was produced for a UK Electro compilation, but never made the LP, because it sounded simply too futuristic. Michael Rinder ́s Gluttony can’t be called Disco any more, not even Post-Disco.

For Elaste Vol. 4 we have built Vintage Futurism as a home for these ultramodern mavericks.

About Dompteur Mooner
Mooner stepped into the limelight as part of Zombie Nation, whose 1999 smash hit 'Kernkraft 400' was signed to DJ Hell's Gigolo label and earned worldwide chart success. As one of the most knowledgeable experts in obscure vintage electronic music, Mooner however decided to do things a little less obvious from that point on: He left Zombie Nation and founded Erkrankung durch Musique, a label dedicated to releasing left-field electronica, from techno to experimental pop, old and new.

He also a highly regarded DJ, known for his unmatched record collection and bootleg edits, such as his „Girls Girls Girls“ Ep that combined great 80s girl bands as extented edits, or „Greatest Hits“, an hommage to dance – orientaed Rock music.

Mooner just finished his fourth chapter of „Elaste“, a compilation series for Compost Records that started the Cosmic Disco hype.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Marmion’s seminal classic Schöneberg, Superstition are releasing a new 21-track collection of the best remixes over the last three decades, including two brand new versions from Chris Zippel and DJ T., the remix we have on offer here upfront.

If there were to be a compilation celebrating the golden era of European techno, Schöneberg would arguably be the opening track. The most famous cut that came out of Mijk van Dijk and Marcos López’s project Marmion, Schöneberg is perhaps the purest form of what the clubs and raves of Berlin sounded like in the early 90s, and stands as one of the most revered and fondly remembered tracks of all time.

Mijk van Djik and Marcos Lopez formed Marmion after meeting while studying at the FU Berlin, and began Djing together at clubs across the city. It was from their sets that the seed for  Schöneberg was sown, as they tried to find a balance between the techno and trance sounds that dominated the clubs. It was an era ripe for experimentation, and for cross-pollination between genres, as van Djik recalls: "Coldcut was doing pop, Kevin Saunderson was playing up and down all the floors, everything fit. I didn't feel like I had to limit myself or focus on one style”.

Schöneberg was recorded in a single session, and though they returned to it several times afterwards, they never felt they improved on that first creative burst. Released as part of the Berlin E.P. back in 1993, it was heavily championed by influential figures like Tony De Vit and became of the defining anthems of the 90s.

Over the years it has been remixed a huge number of times, by a wide range of artists. Now, to celebrate 30 years since its original release, Superstition have collected the best of the remixes – from artists like DJ Hell, John Acquaviva Remix, Der Dritte Raum, Tim Engelhardt and Donnacha Costello – presented here with two brand new remixes from DJ. T and Chris Zippel, both of whom do a sterling job of putting their own unique spin one this stone-cold classic.

The Fragile EP by LSG is pure '90s progressive trance magic. I’s a perfect mix of driving beats and dreamy soundscapes that pull you in from the first note. Oliver Lieb really nailed that balance between energy and emotion here. Each track feels like a journey, layered and full of texture. It’s one of those releases that still hits just right, no matter how many years have passed.

In 1999, Oliver Lieb delivered a sonic sensation with Into Deep, an album that surpassed the boundaries of progressive trance and ambient techno. It is not so much an album as a liquid stream that ebbs and flows through atmospheric synthesizer scenery and vibrant rhythms that feel alive in their own way. 
Tracks such as 'Fragile' carry an emotional subtext, their gleaming surfaces teasing something personal yet elusive, while songs like 'Consequence' build a tension that builds like a tide about to break. Every moment feels meticulously crafted but never stiff - a conversation between atmosphere and groove. 
Into Deep isn't just music for the mind. It reaches for the invisible, drawing listeners into a space that feels vast and still personal, timeless and still immediate. Even decades later, it remains an experience worth diving into.

A 90s rave classic - now available digitally for the first time. 
Few tracks capture the euphoric spirit of early 90s rave culture like “Loops & Tings” by JENS. With its iconic siren and rolling bassline, it became one of the era’s defining club hits, a techno anthem that crossed borders and filled dancefloors across Europe.

Originally released on Superstition Records, the track was among the most played at the legendary Mayday “Rave Olympia” on April 30, 1994, in Dortmund’s Westfalenhallen. DJs like Carl Cox, Laurent Garnier, DJ Tanith and Marusha all had it in their sets, it echoed across every floor that night. Though Jens Mahlstedt, the artist behind the project, was present, he did not perform live. As the track’s popularity peaked, Berlin’s Low Spirit label knew they couldn’t ignore it any longer. They wanted Loops & Tings for one of their compilations, but not just the original mix. Instead, the “Mayday Live Mix” was born: a studio recording that captured the explosive Mayday energy in a format made for the dancefloor.

The mix was released on vinyl and CD- technically a digital format, yes, but it never saw an official release for streaming or download. Until now. Superstition Records opens the vault and brings the Mayday Live Mix to today’s digital landscape, authentic and high-resolution. A gift for fans, collectors and a new generation of ravers alike.
