Here is my 2025 re-recording of Spot The Dog's instrumental track, "Great Pressure". As originally recorded in Randy Sparks' trailer studio, it appeared as the b-side to the band's 1985 single, "It's Christmas Time" (which I have also recently re-recorded; see my Bandcamp). I wrote this song as an exercise in using some of the first software MIDI sequencers available for personal computers, and I never had any intention of releasing it. But the rest of my band heard it and insisted that it be put to tape. The band's keyboardist/guitarist John Reed dubbed in a bunch of cool guitar tracks and turned it into a rocker. At some point, we needed to select a flip side for our Christmas single, and it was decided that it needed to be this freaky little diddy. Go figure. Learned a bunch of new recording and automation processes in making this fresh version. Instruments used: Moog Minimoog, Oberheim OB-Xa, FXpansion Strobe 2, various PreSonus sound modules, samples and amp sims.

Since the break up of The Epoxies (Fat Wreck Chords) in 2008, Roxy has kept herself quite busy, These songs were written half long distance with her in Oregon and Chris in New Jersey, and half on Roxy’s trips back east. The result is an equal mix of their two styles that mix and bubble in the cauldron of rock n roll. The end product is nothing short of electrifying. Roxy’s low hypnotic voice and captivating performances as The Epoxies frontowman has drawn comparisons to Chrissie Hynde, Siouxie Sioux and even a young Leonard Graves from The Dickies. Now take Chris Pierce. Here’s a man who has produced bands like The Ergs and Nightbirds and has the ability to utterly destroy any instrument he picks up. Lock the two of them in a studio in New Brunswick and this is what you get. An eclectic mix of punk rock, new wave, hyper fuzzed out electro-rock, deluxe hooks and mega riffs. Think DEVO meets Tilt. The synthpunk persona of Kit Watson. What we have here is a mish-mash of old and new; fresh attempts and stale goodies; mostly original, with a smattering of covers. Much of this has not been mastered properly, and most of it was executed in "toy software". Now that I have the right gear for the job, a self-titled album is in the works. Don't hold your breath, though. I'm the Tom Scholz of synthpunk. It's not ever perfect until it's perfect. I have also decided not to post here any versions of any of the songs going onto the album. When the album releases, that's when all the songs will be available.
