PREMIERE: The JLB - Lick the World

The first release on raghoul in 2025 will be the debut album ‘Sankara Never Died’ by Moroccan producer 3xOJ. This 9-track experimental bass album is packed with collaborations, featuring live drummers, vocalists, rappers and transverse flute-players, and will be the first release on the label to be made available on vinyl. ‘Sankara Never Died’ is the fruit of four years of labour and is a homage to the electronic sounds coming from this small but significant corner of the continent. Each track invites the listener into a universe of its own, and explores the different sounds that the artist has been working with over the past decade.

Having gained praise for his release Stasix on Nyege Nyege Tapes and EP Stork on Hakuna Kulala, 3xOJ is a Meknes-raised, Casablanca-based electronic music DJ and producer. His approach to music history and theory has brought him in contact with a wide range of styles and influences that he has learned to weave together with his love for contemporary club culture.

Let's not pretend that any of what we do and make as a label and people holds any value or makes any sense in a world where several genocides of our peoples can unfold before our very own eyes with total impunity of the international bodies that are supposed to keep humanity safe and sane. Daily, our screens, powered by the blood and lives of millions of our Congolese brothers and sisters, are overflowing with images that could only be from nightmares. But they're not. They are the horrifying daily realities of our Palestinian, Sudanese, Lebanese, Syrian, Yemeni and Congolese siblings subjected to the exploitation of natural resources, labour, and land. To those continuing to resist and defend their homeland, we owe you our lives. And from the white ruler, we ask: How do you expect us to create capital for you as you bury our women with their children still hiding in their bellies? How do you sleep at night knowing your peace is drenched in the stench of mass graves that were once hospitals? How do you want us to wake up and seize the day when you continue to seize our lands and futures with it?

Sankara Never Died is a catharsis, a purge of some sort. It is a reminder that the revolution is here and looks red, brown, and black.

DIGITONICA, DEAD XICE - Umbra (29.11.2024)

Taking African gqom motifs, DEAD XICE and DIGITONICA have built on it with their own vision of the genre, starting with moderate rhythmic patterns, playing with broad soundscapes and sci-fi sound design, and ramping up to heavy, aggressive percussion parts that fill the cramped space of dark club rooms.

DIGITONICA, DEAD XICE - Umbra

On ACEN065, NYC-based producer enfleshed makes their All Centre debut with a collection of atmospheric, alien club cuts. They follow up the excellent Beautiful Behavior EP from earlier this summer with three tracks which embody the producer’s unique sonic world, manipulating textural otherworldly organic sounds over driving club rhythms.

The EP opens with chaos pendulum. Oscillating voices echo and overlap over pummelling kicks and razor-sharp percussion. The track builds with broken techno rhythms, whilst a swirling, discordant synth adds a melancholy edge to the atmosphere.

Next up, alien chatter introduces nightshade before crashing snares and weighty sub bass lead the track into a clattering electro-esque workout. An earworm synth melody enters the fray half way through the track before the kicks switch into a hefty four-to-the-floor pattern, ramping up the intensity until the finish.

our last muscle begins with meticulous, strange sound design before syncopated bass hits bring the track into its groove. Swirling percussion envelopes the listener while a tense melody pierces the mix, with tight rhythmic switch-ups to keep dancers on their toes.

enfleshed - chaos pendulum [ACEN065]

The final katharsis release of 2024 is the 26-track compilation “Physical Force” featuring a wide range of affiliated artists from both the international and local Copenhagen electronic music scene. As the title hints, Physical Force delves into the visceral, bodily aspects of music, inviting its contributors to explore the theme of movement as a central element in their compositions. Each artist was encouraged to focus on rhythm, groove, energy, and the physicality of sound, which resulted in drum-heavy release from start to finish. While there is a consistent emphasis on rhythm and a bodily connection to the music, the tracks vary widely in style and sonic texture, ranging from big melodic anthems, gritty experimental techno, heavy jungle bangers, and beyond.

ESP: e5g0000 es una joven dj cántabra afincada en madrid. Viniendo de la escena local santanderina, pasando por la escena rave y ahora en la capital, se nutre de los distintos sonidos que han ido formando su trayectoria. Sus sets viajan entre lo onírico, nostálgico y violento, sin ceñirse a ningún género en concreto, juega moviéndose entre varios géneros como los breaks y el trance, el gabber y el electro, el reggaeton y el jungle entre muchos otros. Ha pinchado con distintos colectivos y fiestas como 40hzclub, Deprerreo, Trvtz Club entre otros, demostrando su versatilidad en la pista de baile <3 .

ENG: e5g0000 is a young DJ from Cantabria, now based in Madrid. Coming from the local scene in Santander, passing through the rave scene, and now in the capital, she draws inspiration from the different sounds that have shaped her journey. Her sets travel between the dreamlike, nostalgic, and violent, without adhering to a single genre. She plays with a variety of styles, moving between breaks and trance, gabber and electro, reggaeton and jungle, among many others. She has played with different collectives and parties such as 40hzclub, Deprerreo, and Trvtz Club, showcasing her versatility on the dance floor <3.
