ÑETA is the follow-up DJ set to XDJ Makiná's previous set "Divagone". With a 2-4 deck DJing style best described as open format, Makiná spins ambient, techno, & reggaetón. She also DJs house, salsa & hip-hop. 

𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐱 ➽
One of the most interesting characteristics of her tracks, and also in this DJ set, is the unique mixing of different atmospheres and layers of sound. Repetition of words and phrases, washed out with noise, then jumping into trap music, then dissolving into electronic downtempo beat, echoing the rap words in the background. Then building again (the part from 6:00-10:00) sounds like the soundtrack to constructing some cyber dystopic industrial world. Once you feel like you're in the club, then you are dreaming.

XDJ Makiná, a transfemme audiovisual artist from San Juan, Puerto Rico, works with a variety of digital mediums, like DJing, to expand & join the frequencies that make up the framework of her Island. Her work constantly pushes forward boundaries of the soul, individually & collectively, while recognizing timelines that enable her shifting state of mind.

Short for /fuck/, "Ñeta" expresses a variety of ways in which Puerto Rican people react to situations around them. Frustration, satisfaction, unsettledness, & celebration are only some of the ways "puñeta" captures the heated spirit of the Boricua people.

The cover for ÑETA, self-captured and edited, was shot at a hidden spot in Sea Glass Beach, Vieques, Puerto Rico, a minute's walk from where her grandparents grew up.
