so, this is my essential mix. i want to say a few things about it!

before writing "worlds", i'd been feeling kinda pessimistic about the future of electronic music. so once i was done writing "worlds" over the course of 2~ish years, i just felt the need to find new stuff that i loved. i did a ton of soundcloud digging, basically, and most of the music in this mix was music i found that way. that's not to say that there aren't classics or songs i've known for a while here, but it's mostly new music.

then BBC radio 1 asked me to do an essential mix, and it seemed like the perfect way to showcase new stuff i was into.

i also feel like it's important to point out that this mix isn't what the worlds tour is going to sound like, really - that tour is going to be only my own music. all originals. (also it's going to be a blast and a visual journey and other stuff i can't talk about yet ehehe).

In Hour 2 we welcome German duo Âme, whose productions have featured many times on Solid Steel over the years. From their early releases on Sonar Kollektiv and their own Innervisions label, they have consistently produced music of high quality. In this mix they start with the melancholic vocal of Patrick Watson on The Cinematic Orchestra's 'To Build a Home' and on to the sound of Land Observations, Rotla and the Brian Eno project alongside Karl Hyde. Then it's Cirrus by Bonobo, Owen Pallett on Domino, To Rococo Rot and a remix of Peter Gabriel by Frank Wiedemann (one half of Âme) before closing with the beautiful sound of Joram Feitsma.

Solid Steel Radio Show 12/9/2014 Part 3 + 4 - Âme

Breakin / Electro / Funk. A selection of predominantly Breakdance and Electro tunes from the early 80's mixed by me, and some of my fave tunes from the Breakdance Movies i used to watch as a kid. Iv got this mix elsewhere online and is quite popular on YouTube, but this is a longer version compared to the copy on YouTube, and with enhanced sound quality.

I put alot of time and effort into preparing and mixing this.You can certainly hear in these old tunes how they was a pre cursor for house music.Lots of the beats and samples then went on to be used in the 80's house and early 90's hardcore tunes that followed.

Like Showbiz and AG, Twit One and Lazy Jones like their pockets fat not flat. But as fate would have it, this is not always the case with these two young musicians from Cologne. That's why they call their new band Flatpocket and have recorded a concept album based on this topic, titled „Geldfundphantasyen“ (german for „Finding Money Fantasies“).

Each remix takes the original versions into another direction but still predicates the labels philosophy. "Switchstance" is taken from the culture of boardsports, meaning the skill used to change the stance (easily) by switching one's foot position. The stance in freestyle Snowboarding or Skateboarding, is either riding in "regular" (left foot forward) or "goofy" (right foot forward) position. This identifies a really skilled rider and opens up a whole new world of trick combinations.

The label's creed and therefore the style of its producers and DJs is to have ultimate freedom, whether in their musical movements or in "switching" between various styles. The aim of the label is to combine early musical influences such as Funk, Jazz, Latin, 90´s Hip Hop and Reggae with the most progressive techniques of electronic music production in order to create a new dynamic sound that pays respect to the diverse cultures it comes from. It is the soundtrack of the lives of artists that dedicate their time and energy to produce cutting-edge grooves for a conscious and openminded generation.
