Any artist is welcome to send us a track via freshonthenet.co.uk anytime between Monday lunchtime and Wednesday evening (or when we receive 200 submissions, whichever is sooner) - and all our moderators, including Tom Robinson, will listen to every track. This is our full inbox from the week beginning Mon 22nd November: from Friday afternoon you'll be able to hear our shortlist and pick your favourites on this week's Listening Post which will appear at freshonthenet.co.uk/batch427

If a track you submitted does not appear in this list, it’s probably because another of your tracks appeared in our Fresh Faves or on the BBC Music Introducing Mixtape during the last three months — we ask that artists featured on either wait three months before resubmitting to give others a chance. 

We also don’t accept short previews or SoundCloud Go tracks that can only be heard as 30 second previews, and tracks made private after submission, which cannot be included in playlists. You will be able to resubmit the track in future. Tracks (and remixes of tracks) that have been previously submitted, and tracks from banned artists will also be removed.

Christmas songs and the like are also not eligible for the Listening Post, although we will collect these into a playlist that will be published on 24 December.

all around me reflections of you

This is a track I wrote for a special collaborative project (more on that latter). It was inspired by a poem by Robert Creeley called 'Tunnels'.

Time isn't

This track is a collaboration between The Sighs of Monsters and poet David Chislett. The poem "More Than Blue" appears in his new collection of poetry "With All Of You" and we were tasked with setting it to music, along with other artists who chose other works. The poem references the cultural impact of New Order's "Blue Monday" as it pounded out of the loudspeakers of the clubs in the 1980s, as the author "found his tribe". We've made some cheeky references to it in our musical treatment.

I’m taking another quick break in the midst of my Best of the Year feature to premiere this beautiful piece, and then, I promise, I’ll finish up publishing all of these year-end lists [only one more to go!] before the end of this week. Meanwhile, let’s all spend some time in the company of Vanessa Wagner, a French pianist who’s, in my humble opinion, doing something for the modern classical scene, what Martha Argerich did for the contemporary classical in the 20th century. It was indeed the debut recital of Argerich’s 1961 performance that thoroughly captivated me in her execution of Liszt’s Piano Sonata in B Minor [I still think it is the best rendering of that beautiful piece]. And it is Wagner’s solo piano virtuoso performances of music by Philip Glass, Nico Muhly, Suzanne Ciani, Harold Budd, and yes, even Brian Eno & Roger Eno, on this upcoming release on InFiné is what’s raising the bar for the next level of music appreciation from these present classical composers of the ambient and electronic music scenes. The imprint had previously showcased Wagner’s talent when she partnered with Murcof for Statea in 2016. Three years later, we were graced with Inland, on which Wagner played music by Bryce Dessner, Moondog, and Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch, among many others. For The Study Of The Invisible, Wagner continues her exploration of the minimalist repertoire, with many rare and unpublished pieces, some that have never been performed on the piano before. In today’s premiere, I’m sharing a composition by Ezio Bosso, an award-winning Italian composer who sadly passed away in May of 2020. This is a gorgeous minimal piece that resonates in the quietude of early morning and leaves behind the traces of melancholy, yearning for hope, and ultimately the acceptance.

The record presents a collection of 10 beautiful, texture filled ambient pieces where Julia weaves her signature stacks of piano & synth layers with electronic programming and the atmospheric stylings of Australian flautist Rowan Hamwood.

“Shapes in Time” is new delicate instrumental song by Japan-based band, Lullatone.
A soft ambient ode to life's little moments. Equally apt at fitting in the background while focusing for work or taking a nap, the meditative melody swells and lulls like an ocean’s waves. 

The video, all shot around the the duo’s studio in Nagoya has the same kind of relaxing mood as the melody. A sleepy sunset sheds flickering rays of washed out light over their instruments as cassette tape loops and a homemade mobile spin in circles. Other instruments include a vintage wooden fender stratocaster, a milkman audio amp pedal providing the spring reverb, an organelle and OP-1 for granular sample mangling and more.

While nodding at the palette of the ambient essentials of the past, Brian Eno, Harold Budd, Aphex Twin, Stars of the Lid... the track feels also at home with more modern masters of the genre like Emily A. Sprague, Alaskan Tapes, Hainbach, Nila Sinephro and more. 
And though not quite classical, the composition has a similar atmospheric mood to the duo's most popular piano track "falling asleep with a book on your chest (piano version)". Leave it on in the background for a reading soundtrack or doing work or even falling to sleep with sweet dreams.

'Scenes from the four seasons' is a collection of unreleased tracks and b-sides from 2012, running through the four seasons and stopping at some intimate moments in Winter, a tranquil evening in Autumn, two seaside scenes between Spring and Summer. 

I decided to have all these tracks together in this collection not only because of the common theme, but above all because, when I started working on my first modern classical album, that will be released later this year, I didn't want to left all these works incomplete, even if they were mostly expression of ideas and style still imperfect and evolving.

However I'm sure you'll find a moment of peace and tranquillity in these notes, and even some passages that represents your life during the seasons, an intimate moment, as when you're at home and the snow starts falling in winter, or when you first see the seaside in spring.

Departure is the debut album from Connecticut based producer (ghost). Rooted firmly at electronic music's crossroads where electronic pop, early artificial intelligence era 'Warpisms' and experimental electro intersect Departure follows a thinly structured concept in which a protagonist, possibly (ghost) himself(?), escapes a type of confinement in search of freedom or immunity. Wholly optimistic but not without it's moods of trepidation that such flight might yield, (ghost) greets the listener with engaging melodies, swabs of skittering electro backbeats and the occasional soulful guitar phrase all to great effect. Maybe it is truly the listener who (ghost) creates such an escape for...
