Following the release of debut EP "Numeral" (2020), Swiss drummer & producer Philippe Adam continues his sonic journey by paying tribute to a penchant for booming sub-basses, intricate percussion and gloomy soundscapes. Having since moved to Berlin, numeral picks up on very current feelings of melancholy, longing and disorientation that originate in the constricting reality of 2021. Nevertheless, in addition to the somewhat eerie mood, a touch of confidence shimmers through, which reminds us of the nights in which we could still enjoy the beats in dark cellars pounding from booming boxes.

The single track "Landing" emerged trough a collaboration with English producer Will Brown aka Brecon, who first gained attention in 2018 with his debut EP "Cairn" and who his best known for his remixes for Max Cooper, Rob Clouth and Morcheeba. Brecon's signature synth arpeggios and melodic piano parts simultaneously complement and contrast the ominous atmosphere created by numerals careful arranged production. The result is a persistently evolving four-on-the-floor dance track with a great payoff.

This here is the second cassette release on one Eddie C’s Red Motorbike label and comes from fellow Canadian in Berlin Colin de la Plante, aka the Mole. Aside from their shared motherland, the two men have a great deal in common. A freewheeling easygoing attitude to life and music that belies some serious talent. 

This release is a beat tape of sorts in which The Mole tosses off 21 bite-size chunks of studio science with the flippancy of someone with a serious surplus of ideas. In other hands, this might be agonised over, reworked and spread over an LP or two. Not so here; it’s kept lithe, loose and close to the ground, pure head nodders, end-to-end burners. 

And make no mistake, this is a sunny smokey listen, a free association between samples and machines, a train of musical thought from an ever-curious mind. So slip this cassette into the deck and ease into a warm and welcoming world where The Mole returns to the funkier side of life.
