My next guest on Yax Invites is Sibel, a young French DJ, co-founder of Metanoia Collective and member of the Unit Soeurs project (collective of female DJs in Lyon). 

Musician since her youngest age with the practice of violin, she became passionate about electronic music and Djing, which represents for her new means of expression. 

Her musical aesthetic is tinged with a sense of rhythm and groovy vibes, through a hypnotic, mental and dark techno. Her mix offers a variety of sounds, she delivers groovy percussion and mental techno, thought a dark atmosphere.

My next guest on Yax Invites is Matt Holt, a techno DJ, avid music collector and a lover of underground electronica.

From Wolverhampton, Matt discovered his passion for the underground scene through Hysteria, Helter Skelter and Rennie Pilgrim mixtapes. Learning his trade at the age of 17 on a pair of belt-driven turntables he soon got gigs in Wolverhampton bars. These were followed with regular nights at Nailed, a hard dance night in Leicester. In 2019 Matt became a resident at MONO, an up and coming Liverpool techno brand.

Over the years, like many DJ's, Matt’s sound has changed but always keeps to that techno sound. Whether its funky chunky cuts, driving energetic stompers or darker melodic breaks, matt’s sets fit any dancefloor.

This mix showcases where Matt is musically with 90 minutes of funky, driving energetic industrial techno with tracks by Manuel Di Martino, DAST, Audio Units and BAUGRUPPE90 on labels such as Illegal Alien and Newrhythmic Recordings.

Duja and J.Brenner return for another mix in a Red Peak Style. Throughout all our mixes, we have a special place in our heart for Mix 002, and the ambient dub journey it took us on. We tried once more for a journey into the more obscure, but the mix was lost due to technical difficulties during recording. It appears the planets have aligned, and another adventure to the outer realms of the dubiverse is underway. Buckle up the seatbelts, equip the space helm, dial up the volume to 9 and the bass to 11. A small den of roots and culture in the midwest, Denver has its own unique appreciation for the qualities brought forth through Jamaica in it’s musical conquest of the world. It can be seen vigorously in Denver's techno and EDM dance scene but also in its deep and dubby roots scene brought forward through multiple sound systems in the Front Range. Blas Goncalves-Borrega has a small part in this bigger picture as a selector, friend and artist. He brings forth a heavy and mystic mix of rare and obscure roots for the mad scientists at Red Peak Sound, with each song I selected having Jack and Justin on my mind. Peace and Love is the message!

1. A little introduction. Tell us your artist name, where you're based out of? How has your DJing style evolved since you started and when did you start?

I’m yungfya!  born and raised in West London, shaped by Leeds and now based in Berlin. five years ago, a mentorship program with Femme Bass Mafia sparked my journey into DJing. my eclectic style has always been a bit of a challenge for this city, but over the years, I've learned how to present my sound in a playful and accessible way. it’s important to me that people feel invited to connect with the music I’m sharing, rather than alienated. low-end frequencies and intricate drum patterns have always been at the core of my sets, and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon.

2. What inspired this mix?

The subtle wisdom of ecology, where everything coexists, with or without meaning, inspired this session. I allow rhythm and texture to unfold in conversation by layering tracks with shifting drum patterns to create a kind of dialogue that honors both intention and organic flow,  like voices in a dream: meeting, diverging, dancing in and out of each other’s gravity. structure dissolves and meaning emerges in the spaces between.

3. What is the ideal setting for this mix? What venue or vibes? How does DJing make you feel when you're doing it? 

When I’m DJing, I feel like I’m deep in a swamp surrounded by dubby atmospheres, weird echoes and wild jungle breaks. it feels murky, spiritual and very untamed. shifting drum patterns guide the journey in this mix, so the ideal setting would be somewhere outdoors, maybe under a full moon with a stacked soundsystem pushing serious weight! a space where people can get lost in the low end and let the rhythms take over.
