“For this mix I wanted to capture the icy freshness of January, a month filled with new energy, bright skies, and winter’s introspection. Inspired by a trip in the mountains: cold alpine air, glittering snow, and vast expanses of rock nestled amongst forests of pine trees. One year on, I am so excited to share the recording of my set at Mo:Dem 2024, playing at The Seed stage 🌀💠🌀

My first experience of The Seed blew me away, opening new doorways in my mind and rewiring neural connections between genres and sonic sensations. Each stage at Modem @mo_dem is a universe of its own, and I felt completely at home at The Seed ~ a place for lucid dreaming and floating through the depths of space ✥

I played on Friday night from 11PM-2AM, slithering through subaquatic dubstep, spectral IDM, molten halftime and slinky psychedelic nighttime music of all shades ~

The set starts off propulsive, and as we descend into the night, the energy slowly evaporates, as The Seed shifts into a cocoon of pulsating luminescence for the late night hours. 

Thank you to @marcomental and @spekkiwebu for the invitation and inspiration. Returning to The Seed this year was equally special, it is now deeply nestled in my heart, and the recording of 2025’s set might also surface one day. But for now, I hope you enjoy this dive back to 2024 ~ three hours of psychedelic bass vibrations from the depths ✧｡⋆.

Colombian DJ and producer, Aleja Sanchez is the beautiful mind behind our 33rd podcast. Someone who is in the driving seat of the Colombian techno scene, with increasing recognition on an international scale, her ever-growing discography of consistently outstanding releases and remixes play testament to her skills and creative hunger as an artist. Aleja's ability to portray emotion and energy through music in the way that she does has left us breathless on countless occasions. The marine forms abound in the sea depths, in marshes which are flooded at high tide, in shallow inlets and the muddy bottoms underlying the sandy surface of the seashore. The fresh water forms are plentiful on the mossy stones of mountain streamlets, pools bordering rivulets, dripping rocks.

When recording this mix, I imagined playing a set at 6AM, at the end of a high intensity rave outside in nature. Going from hazy pre-dawn darkness, to the sun cresting over the horizon and into glorious sparkling sunlight 🌤

A sunrise set for when you can telepathically feel the energy of everyone else on the dance floor. These are the moments I am missing right now, and this mix is dedicated to those luminescent mornings.

These are all my most sacred, emotional, magical tracks in one mix, including many of my favourite ‘90s techno-trance records from a golden time for transcendental dance music.

His deep interest in the finer details of sound is evident in his own music and the label he runs that most recently released Haji K’s quiet stunner of a record “Black Against An Orange Line”. Justin is also an avid digger of Australian music, and has some very exciting projects in relation to that coming up soon. His most recent album “Chasms” was released on Angoisse in February of this year and comes highly recommended!

In the shimmering sunlight the city was a transparent lake, but as the sun crept down the city dissolved into a veiling grey horizon. I remember the faint remoteness as I stared out to my hometown of Los Angeles. I had recently moved back home and had expected for the rush of nostalgia to bloom into a previous self. However, there was instead a stillness that seemed to be waiting for something. The rolling hills before me arched up and down but only seemed to descend. The moments that followed dilated around me and I took solace in knowing that I was truly happy again.

This progression of music tries to embody the slowed and slurred first moments of my days rediscovering Los Angeles and the unintentional ebb and sway of finding myself again. A gradually looping state of lethargy breaks out into its own speed and dance.
