Following on from the premiere of ‘Burning In Hell’ on VICE’s Noisey earlier this year and limited edition releases on The Crossing and Breathe Plastic Records, the winners of this year’s Best Rock Band honour at the 2014 Cincinnati Entertainment Awards release their hotly tipped debut this July.
 
Formed just over a year ago by guitarist Ross Dolan, vocalist Laura Dolan, Nick Vogelpohl (bass) and Nate Wagner (drums) Electric Citizen have had a busy year turning heads and ears onto their dark and esoteric style of haunting and unhallowed ’60s West Coast rock, and decidedly British-influenced heavy psychedelia.
 
Like records by similarly late 60s/early ’70s-possessed anti-modernists Blood Ceremony, Wolf People and Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, over nine tracks Sateen provides a blueprint for long term appreciation. Recorded and produced by fellow Ohioan and local stalwart Brian Olive (The Greenhornes, Soledad Brothers) the album draws on sounds synonymous with the roots of early ’70s proto-metal from groups such as Sir Lord Baltimore, Pentagram, Cream and the daemonic spirit of Amon Düül. Not to mention the comparisons it draws with the rock 'n' roll ceremony of forgotten acts like Frumpy and Shocking Blue when held up against the spellbinding light of high priestess Laura Dolan’s enigmatic voice and live presence.
 
From the cloudy and mystical swirl of ‘Hawk Nightingale’ to the shades of folk metal on ‘Shallow Water’, Electric Citizen pitch scholarly interpretations of the old guard in new and electrifying ways and not always from the vaults of forgotten masters. Take new single 'Light Years Beyond' with it's swirling and ferocious concoction of guitars and drums or ‘Magnetic Man’ with its unabashed nod to Heart and classic Black Sabbath. Just a handful of many songs here that showcases just how good the band is at dropping sonic needles into the grooves of records that all serious rock ’n’ roll lovers hold dear.

After performing recent shows with Dead Meadow, Spirit Caravan and The Sword the band are currently on the road as official support to stoner rock Gods Fu Manchu on their North American tour.   ‘Light Years Beyond’ is released on 20 May 2014 and paves the way for Sateen which will be officially released via RidingEasy Records on 1 July 2014.  The artwork for the album has been created by acclaimed artist Neil Krug who has previously worked with The Horrors, Lana Del Ray and Boards Of Canada).

Already tipped by some as one of the year’s most exciting debuts it marks the start of a promising journey for a band you need to hear.

About a month ago we went on Soundcloud and searched the tag "Heaven Trap".... to our surprise we saw tons of you guys are making it!! It was truly amazing to see, and we can't thank you guys enough for supporting our sound. One of these tracks was made by Party Thieves, and it stood out strongly amongst the rest. That moment we hit him up for stems because we wanted to edit his track for our live show.... he replied and sent over the pieces. As we were working we realized he had pitched up the entire track up for his version and it wasn't exactly what we had in mind to play out. We then wrote him back to let him know that we wouldn't be able to use any of his stems for our version, but that we would still add him as a collaborator on the track. We really want to support artists making this sound.... so we felt this would be a great way to boost up a very talented up-n-comer. LO-Fi FUN FACTORY - Inexplicable Green

After creating a stir in 2015 with a bold and noisy surf-rock sound showcased on the EP Laguna Babe, The Van T’s have made a swift return with their follow up EP A Coming of Age.

Having begun writing songs at just seventeen years old, twin sisters Hannah (guitar, vocals) and Chloe Van Thompson (guitar, vocals) decided to start a band shortly after. Initially playing shows in and around Scotland as a duo, the twins recruited Joanne Forbes (bass) and Shaun Hood (drums) in an attempt to add more layers to an already impressive sound. As a result The Van T’s were born, complete with a sunny 50’s jukebox style sound and a twist of cathartic 90’s grunge thrown in for good measure, captivating both fans and music aficionados alike.

Taking inspiration from band’s such as the B52’s, Veruca Salt, Smashing Pumpkins and Le Butcherettes, The Van T’s have created a contemporary, scuzz-filled record that also has an endearing raw quality pouring out from every note. Lead single ‘Blood Orange’ encapsulates the bands characteristics perfectly as electrifying guitar howls and echoes from the speakers, bridged beautifully by the twin sisters duel vocals, all neatly harnessed by the simple yet effective interplay between drums and bass. 

Despite the band being in its infancy, The Van T’s have already appeared at T in the Park, Wickerman, Electric Fields, Tenement Trail and Strange Behaviours as well as supporting Catholic Action and Honeyblood. This has seen them pick up support from Clash, The Scotsman, Beat Surrender, Backseat Mafia, BBC Radio Scotland, Amazing Radio and XFM Scotland. 2016 looks like it will be another hectic year for The Van T’s with appearances scheduled at Wide Days, Stag & Dagger and Brew at the Bog, a support slot with HAWK in London and culminating with two dates supporting the mighty Yuck.

A Coming of Age by The Van T’s is released July 1st via Bloc+Music.
