Specifics:
Small segments of all three tracks were imported into Samplewiz on my iPhone.  I recorded three performances, one for each songs.  I then mixed them together to create a bit of a mess.


Background:
This Disquiet Junto project was done as a celebration of the efforts of the Bump Foot netlabel, and to support its employment of licenses that allow for derivative works. These Junto netlabel remix projects are intended to promote reworking as itself a means of music distribution. This track is comprised of three pieces of music, all originally released on Bump Foot: "Bongo" off the Aguas Tonicas album titled Los Desposeídos, "Broken Robots" off the Gridline album titled Red Music, and "The Cat in the Ocean" off the Pics Frunk album titled Low Voltage. A philosopher by training, Sylvain Poitras explores circularity and self-reference in the fields of video, comics and electroacoustic music: that he uses images, words or sounds, he primarily seeks to blur the boundaries between the object and its designation. Software designer and trombonist, it was only natural that he invented the "meta-trombone", a sophisticated processing system which curiously leads him to the origins of free jazz.

I've become addicted to drone. Again. I was the kid with his head on the piano, listening to the overtones die away, or pressing his ear to the steel hull of the ferry, enthralled by the sounds it created. I was the kid who formed wordless songs to accompany the sound of train wheels on a long journey, or hummed along with the fan on a hot day.

In the 60s I used to play my 45s on 16, or backwards, or by hand using razor blades as stylii.

I made cut-up tapes on a cheap cassette recorder in the 70s and experimented with reel-to-reel in the 80s.
