PREMIERE – Undo – A Shot In The Dark (Latido)

One of the enduring powerhouses of our era returns for RA.1000 with a riotous mix.

When Helena Hauff made her first RA Podcast appearance back in 2013, she was on the eve of releasing her debut production on Actress' Werkdiscs imprint. In the 12 years that have elapsed, she's become not just a household name within electronic music, but the kind of rare talent that lives in seclusion from industry tumultt.

(Hauff, enviously, has never even owned a smartphone.)

Her calling card continues to be her penchant for rough and ready EBM, electro and new wave. Her unique ability is creating a singular listening experience from disparate or out-of-favour tracks, with a raw immediacy that functions as a redress to over-choreographed modern DJing.

Her outsider approach is on show once again for RA.1000. Threaded together by strobe-lit DIY electronica, old-school acid house and corrosive machine funk that chews up the ear, the nearly two-hour set raises the bar once again.

In the sci-fi themed first half, Hauff drops two Cybotron tracks, nodding to Juan Atkins' blueprint for electro. You'll also hear "Riot" by Underground Resistance, the definitive mission statement for a world ablaze. This is musical anarchism, executed to the highest degree.

The Hunger (1983) directed by the recently deceased Tony Scott and starring David Bowie, Susan Sarandon and Catherine Deneuve has been the inspiration that Alek has served to make this album, The Hunger is one of those movies that is about the impossible of eternal love, nothing is forever, impossible to meet promises... 

http://soundcloud.com/alekstark presents its new project italo disco as Alessandro Forte, inspired by this mythical film of the 1980s. The Hunger EP was produced between June and August this year with machinery analog weighing, Oberheim Xpander, old school modulars, TR808, VP330 Vocoder, etc. In the theme song, I Love You Forever, emphasizes careful production with his Roland Super Vocoder.

Alek is an italo disco lover and this work is once again demonstrating his interest in a genre that follows closely with producers such as Kid Machine, Ali Renault, Brassica... that emphasizes how they work slowly and muscular beats, where the italo sound serious, difficult and only some producers have achieved years ago.

On side A, I Love You Forever, a theme to the purest style italo where rhythms coalesce with the power of the vocoder and melodies you trap to melt in the bass line. In this same face remixes of high-level made by two of the producers who admire and which stands out the http://soundcloud.com/synth_alien vocoders or the incredible http://soundcloud.com/kidmachinemusic "solo", and how they have adapted the original song to your own style.

On the b-side, far more serious, in which the concept of the album is more evident, presents three tracks filled with impossible arpeggios, analog warmth and layers of melodies full of feelings in which Alek demonstrates his italo disco love.

Purely analog audio, old school vinyl manufactured by Record Industry, the best vinyl factory at the world. The sleeve has been manufactured on Antalis black cardboard, printed in silver with red details hand-painted one by one.

Negli ultimi anni lo spagnolo Serafín Gallego ha spostato il baricentro d’interesse verso l’Electro relazionata alle tematiche scientifiche. Alek Stark così assume le nuove sembianze di una sorta di scienziato abbigliato con camice bianco ed intento a scrutare lo spazio, con un futuristico telescopio in cerca di nuovi mondi da esplorare. Tale concept prende le distanze da quello che invece era in origine Alek Stark, punto di ricongiungimento e scambio tra esperienze retrò degli 80s (Synth Pop, Disco, Electro Funk) e l’Electro del nuovo millennio. L’emblematico album edito dalla Disko B nel 2002, affiancato da altri brani prodotti per la sua Star Whores e distribuiti in un numero limitato di copie su vinile, resta uno dei capisaldi di quel periodo, ricordato negli annali come il migliore per l’esplosione del fenomeno Electroclash. Ma lo spagnolo non era propriamente Electroclash, seppur tra quelli che contribuirono con maggior apporto creativo alla riabilitazione di suoni sbattuti nel dimenticatoio. Adesso, in questo ultimo scorcio di 2012, torna sui suoi passi, ma italianizzando l’alias e seguendo la metodologia inversa di quanto invece facevano gli italiani in epoca Italo Disco per rendere più appetibili i propri nomi sullo scenario internazionale.
Così Alek Stark si trasforma in Alessandro Forte, e ritorna sul sentiero dell’Electro Disco, lasciandosi ispirare per i brani di “The Hunger” dall’omonimo film diretto dal compianto Tony Scott nel 1983. “I Love You Forever” è tutto quello che gli irriducibili appassionati si aspettano da una produzione Electro Disco che si rispetti, bassi corposi e melodie eseguite con vecchi sintetizzatori e drum machine (sistemi modulari, Oberheim, Roland, Korg, Akai), voci vocoderizzate ed ambientazioni nettamente vintage, ulteriormente dilatate e sviluppate nei due remix a firma Synth Alien (che ad oggi si conferma come lo spagnolo più vicino allo stile di Gallego) e Kid Machine, il britannico reduce dell’uscita su Viewlexx e decisamente sulla stessa linea d’onda. B side altrettanto ricolma di cultura/passione per quel mondo sonoro, con l’intro “Nothing Is Forever”, la sinuosa “Release Me” (in cui si rintracciano analogie con “We Love You”), la virtuosa “Everlasting Lie”, autentico mosaico di “musica sintetica”, e “Life Is Living”, dove l’autore fa sfoggio della sua capacità nel programmare melodie ed arpeggi.
Solo 200 le copie disponibili del vinile rosso fuoco, colore azzeccato per descrivere al meglio la passione che arde in questo pezzo di “plastica circolare” destinato a pochi eletti.

El veterano productor madrileño Alek Stark nos presenta su nuevo aka como Alessandro Forte, donde el artista experimenta con el italo más sintético y el space disco más sideral en este ”The Hunger Ep”, en claro tributo al film dirigido en 1983 por por el fallecido recientemente Tony Scott con David Bowie, Susan Sarandon y Catherine Deneuve como protagonistas. 

El Ep, que ha visto la luz en el sello Interstellar Tracks, nos obliga a no perder para nada la pista a este label tan interesante del que ya hemos hablado en esta web, que una vez más deja muy claro que está haciendo las cosas muy bien, escogiendo el momento y artista adecuado para dar a luz producciones dotadas de una calidad sobradamente contrastada. Sin prisas y con los objetivos bien definidos, Interstellar Tracks es uno de los sellos nacionales a tener muy en cuenta por todo aquel amante de los sonidos analógicos con cierto sabor vintage. 

“I love you forever” abre el Ep en forma de pelotazo de italodisco infeccioso. Mutaciones de arpegios espaciales y una preciosa melodía difícil de olvidar combinada con vocoder de ciencia ficción a ritmo de un tempo lento pero muy efectista. 

Después nos topamos con dos grandes remixes de este enorme tema. Primero, el realizado por el lucense Synth Allien. ”Te amo forever” baja todavía más el tempo de la original, y quizás da más protagonismo al bajo que al componente melódico, sin olvidarse para nada del apartado vocal donde el vocoder continúa siendo el protagonista. 

El “Te amo forever”, remezcla del original realizada por Kid Machine, se recrea con los sintetizadores y nos ofrece una visión personal e igual de efectiva en la pista de baile que la original y el remix de Synth Allien. 

En ”Release me” Alessandro Forte nos sumerge en un bucle de espirales sonoras de alto componente hipnotizador a su vez que danzante y psicodélico. 

“Everlasting Lie” vuelve a dar protagonismo a los graves y sus arpegios melódicos celestiales nos traerán irremediablemente a nuestra cabeza al mismísimo Jean Michel Jarre. 

Por último, ”La vida es vivir” despide el Ep igual que lo empezó, a base de italo de ritmos cálidos y analógicos. 

“The Hunger Ep” ha salido en una cuidada edición de 200 copias en vinilo rojo.
