First track of a new album where I'll try to be more eclectic, with closer approach to some genres. Experimented on this one over-editing vocal line on the left, and getting midi files out of organic guitar melodies, which I could play with virtual instruments. I hope you'll enjoy a different Ruizzoid shape.

Dedicated to Germán Coppini’s ‘Golpes Bajos’, one of my favorite groups of the Spanish ‘Nueva Ola’.

Pantomime Street

With nowhere else to go but forward, I ventured deep into the blue forest.  There were spirits living here, but they seemed to be okay with my presence.  One of them helped guide me through the maze of trees, over rivers and through natural tunnels buried beneath the earth.  It never spoke to me, but It seemed to want to show me something, so I followed.  The light began to fade away.  Nightfall was coming.  I had to find a safe place to sleep.

Spirits of the Forest

The spirit brought me to an empty clearing in the forest with nothing around but a rough wooden sign that read “Welcome to Lamplight Village: Home for all Mages ”.  This was rather odd since there was nothing here but an empty field.  I went ahead and continued forward, and just as I passed the sign post a village illuminated with thousands of lamps began to materialize before me.  There was a river running through the town with multiple cobblestone bridges crossing over it.  People wearing dark cloaks were walking about, entering shops and restaurants, and keeping themselves very busy.  I was stunned by all of this.  I spotted two weary travelers entering an Inn across the bridge that was closest to me, and I recognized them.  I remembered seeing them from a distance back at the Mesa Settlement which seemed like ages ago.  I was curious what their story was, and I needed to rest anyway, so I headed on into the inn.

This was an attempt to utilize only the sounds from ALCHEMY in Logic Pro X. It was more challenging than I thought it might be. Almost all of the elements come with so many effects, that blending them just to obtain a simple harmony usually results in a clash of unintended consequences.

Humankind has imposed its presence upon The Great Precession.
I had this concept in mind as I began working on this project.
While it seems as though its cause has been fairly well understood,
I was amazed that there is still a good deal of conjecture surrounding it.

In creating this soundtrack,
I used only the instruments in Logic Pro X's ALCHEMY
and its native presets.
No additional effects, other than automation and EQ were used.

ADDENDUM: Since the time I first encountered Camille Saint-Saens' Symphony No. 3 In C Minor, Op. 78, "Organ"

in a symphonic composition,
I had wondered at the paucity of the use of the organ in larger arrangement.
Of course, with something of that size, you can't just go on a road show.

The Great Precession

The lyrics were written prior to the death of Mark Hollis of Talk Talk (see verse 2, lines 3 and 4).  They now seem a fitting tribute to a great musician.

Perhaps It's Just Me

Pan was a lascivious Satyr of the mountains and the God of the Shepherds and the Flocks. His main task was to render the flocks fertile.
Of course, this mythical character relates to a fragment of the human psyche, which if given free rein...often shepherds those under "his" spell through the garden of delights, leaving them to repent at their leisure.

Here is also an attempt a composition in the Dorian Mode.
I don't really know if I even got close.
It was my best guess.

You may notice that the underlying rhythm is 8/8,
while the overlaid melodies are 3/4.

So... I wasn't sure what to say about this one. It's about social phobias, isolating, things of that nature. Not going to lie... I was feeling pretty glum when I wrote it, but the difference between now and a couple years ago is that I'm not wallowing in it. The negative feelings have passed and I'm feeling happy now. It's taken a lot for me to be able to do that. So I guess I just want you to know that if you ever need to talk because you're feeling glum, feel free to reach out. I know what it's like to want to hide. Things get better though. They do.

It had been over a decade since I put together a song,
and for that matter basically walked away from music altogether.
Losing hope that I would ever have the time to put into music again,
I finally gave away my 3rd music studio.
I ran across SoundCloud around 2013,
and thought I might take what few songs I had recorded, 
and lay them to rest there.
And there they languished.

HOWEVER, around 2017 I went back to SoundCloud
and began listening a little more and a little more,
and actively taking a part in visiting the sites
of so many wonderful musicians and beautiful songs.
Also, more and more often I would discover that these artists
were blossoming everywhere around the world,
and most definitely worthy of high praise and compliments.

Then suddenly, these old dead soundtracks right here
began to have a bit of life breathed back into them.
From the kind words that began to come trickling in,
I thought, maybe, someday I might give this music thing a try again.

The thing that finally pushed me into action
was a particular SoundCloud artist…Sander Heerings,

Not only was he encouraging,
but he began faithfully responding to a few questions,
then a barrage of them.

The final result seemed to be that after a couple of months,
the Old Grinder now has a 4th studio and, finally, a new song.
I hope there may be many more to come.

to listen to these old songs, 
and most of all, for perking up my spirits.
