We’ve acquired a bit of a journey through the ages with this next edition. The way this has been pieced together is a joy to listen to in itself, let alone the sheer quality of the music our next guest has compiled. It’s certainly not your typical bedroom mix; this one makes you feel like you’re THERE…immersed in the confines of a smokey basement. Without further adieu we’d like to introduce you to Detroit native, Ferrispark Records founder and all round sound guy… Scott Ferguson.

Scott has consistently been a part of the Detroit woodwork since the late nineties after hangin’ with some of the best in the business, namely KDJ, UR, Reggie Dokes and the like. His Ferrispark imprint has become a household name in the D as well as the world over after his debut release ‘Dump Days’ hit the stores, gaining serious props from the heavy hitters such as Theo Parrish, Marcellus Pittmann, Larry Heard and Moodymann. Since then the man has gone from strength to strength!

The mix itself is an absolutely beauty…you’ve got anything from super sexy 70s disco cuts to chunky acid riddims all the way through to Talking Heads and even a certain john Lennon’s son Julian. This is certainly something for one and all to warm your souls.

Francis Harris and Anthony Collins air their Breakaway edits on an exquisite house session.

Since 2012, the New York-based pair have been honing their vision of deep house across a singles on the Scissor and Thread label and their residency at Brooklyn's The Panther Room, gaining the support of DJ Sprinkles in the process. Last year, they released their debut album You Go Girl, which stayed true to the duo's deep house foundations while also exploring dubbier sounds indebted to Basic Channel et al.

Frank & Tony's FACT mix is entirely made up of their own edits, of Mogwai, Herbert, Roedelius and more. "Over the past few years as our sets became more and more focused on a vinyl format", the pair explain, "when faced with non-working turntables, the turn to digital became more and more of a challenge for us. The vinyl we digitized never sounded quite as good and we both had little patience for searching for music with online shops, so most of the time we were playing our own cuts, which, after a while also became tedious."

"As a result, we started making dancefloor edits of music that really inspired us both artistically and personally. These have now become a central part of our DJ performances from the digital side of the spectrum. The list of edits is growing rather exponentially, so we felt that with this mix we would give a little glimpse into this recent approach in our sets. In a way, this mix is a bit of a list of "greatest hits" in our minds, culminating in the ultimate homage to one of the masters, Roedelius."

Grouper's never grooved quite like this, in other words.

Give’n’Take is a new series on Uncanny Valley that focuses on favourite and likeminded producers from some of our core artists. For the start, Cuthead picked Max Graef, S3A and Moony Me and also contributed two tracks to the EP himself.

Berlin’s wunderkind Max Graef hands in “Tittenkuschler“, a slow burner that will find a home on heartfelt dancefloors and sofas alike. Cuthead’s follows up with a punchy house affair called “Braziliance” and the super-relaxing Hip-Hop-cut “Öf Öf”.

On the flipside we have S3A from Paris with the discoid “Theuz Hamtaak”. He takes no prisoners with extensive sampling and an up and down bouncing arrangement. “Magergarten” from Vienna’s Moony Me runs in the same vein with its string-heavy
break and powerfull drumming.

For the visual component Uncanny Valley asked Lucas Hunter aka Luca Lozano aka Luke to create one of his oldschool-praising artworks.

With the emergence of the Rawax stable of artists and subsequent sublabels emerged in August 2011, there had been a real momentum on the whole towards a more pure, analogue, vinyl-only aesthetic, and helmed by DBH distribution the releases came thick and fast.

One such artist, on the Chicago-referencing Chiwax, was Steve Murphy & Co - actually a collective of artists around the core of Steve Murphy, including Die Roh - and the raw, thumping Windy City EP he conjured for the sublabel's first release is simply stunning. Drawing on grit and distortion from old hardware and vinyl samples, the tracks physical effervesce with a real warmth and honesty that seems to have been missing from house music for nearly an age.
