Mid Wooder – DJ, Producer, Composer and Founder of Physical Records**

Active on the techno scene since 1997, Mid Wooder is a DJ recognized for his expertise in mixing on vinyl turntables. In 2008, he founded *Physical Records*, his own label, asserting his place at the heart of the underground techno scene. Having grown up in the middle of the rave culture of the 90s, his inspirations draw deeply from acid techno and tribal techno with sounds from Detroit & Chicago genres that have marked his artistic journey.

For over 20 years, he has performed throughout Europe and internationally (France, Morocco, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Eastern Europe, Portugal, Greece), with many world-renowned DJs. He is able to bring a unique touch to each set, between American techno, German and acid techno with a captivating rhythm but also to integrate more experimental sounds to captivate the energy created on the dance floor.

Known for his sharp selection and his energy on the dancefloor, his style has been shaped by his many travels and spiritual influences.

An artist and composer at heart, he collaborates with many French-speaking, European and international labels, producing original tracks and remixes.

Xavier De Enciso was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, an area of L.A. that gave rise to the west coast electro sound with artists like Egyptian Lover and Arabian Prince. It was during this time in the mid-1980s that Xavier realized that his community was a creative force populated with DJs playing funk, new wave, and eventually Detroit techno. At the age of fifteen, Xavier immersed himself in his neighborhoods’ DJ culture. But it was his initial contact to the abstract sounds of techno that dramatically altered the course of his life and gave way to a new direction. He immediately shifted his musical interest and and in 1990, he received his first experience at promoting techno events in the “back yard party” scene of South, West, and East Los Angeles. 

By 1992, he was immersed in L.A.’s infamous underground warehouse parties where he became a frequent party-goer at legendary undergrounds such as Double Hit Mickey. Driven by a new vision, he set his goal to play at the undergrounds alongside L.A.’s established DJ roster that included names such as Ron D Core, Doc Martin, Barry Weaver, R.A.W. and Steve Loria. Xavier became part of the second wave of DJs that emerged in L.A.'s famed underground circuit. Crossing cultural and physical boundaries, his sets have been witnessed in warehouses, alleys, empty parking lots, deserts, forests, abandoned buildings, sports arenas, and major clubs. His skills earned him top billing alongside the industry’s most respected artists such as Joey Beltram, Kevin Saunderson, Frankie Bones, Doc Martin, Laurent Garnier, John Aquaviva, The Advent, DJ Hyperactive, Mike Dearborn, Josh Wink, Westbam, LTJ Bukem, David Alvarado, Juan Atkins, Mikael Stavostrand, Drumcell, John Tejada, DJ Dex, Santiago Salazar, Esteban Adame, Kris Wadsworth, Claude Young, Silent Servant, and Peter Van Hoesen, just to name a few.

Known for his programming and seamless mixing skills often blurring the lines between techno and house, he’s taken his sound around the U.S and abroad. As a promoter, he's produced some of L.A.'s most memorable raves such as “Ravecycle” (1992), “Opium” (1994- 1998), “Weeble World,” (1996,1997); hosting established artists such as LTJ Bukem, Vapour Space, and Gus Gus. He's also produced underground house events under "Citrusoul" from 1998-2000. 

In 2004, he redirected his focus to academic studies and earned his BA/MA in Chicana/o Studies from Cal State University Northridge. He continued his academic track and has since contributed to L.A.’s underground scene by writing his Masters thesis in 2009 on Los Angeles’ rave DJ culture of the 1990s from a Chicano perspective. He is currently an adjunct professor at East Los Angeles College.

In 2009 he returned from academic hiatus and formed LOVEFIX, a collective that aims at providing a space for techno and house music where community and the underground sound prevail. With a passion for academia and underground nightlife, he's been invited to speak at conferences bringing forth L.A.’s unique underground dance culture.  

He made his debut on MODELHART records via Norway as their 5th vinyl release in 2014 and made the rotations at the mighty Berghain. In addition, he's collaborating with other L.A. techno artists and is set to release music late 2018 under the Artifacts of Struggle Imprint.
