Father Figure is the genre-bending brainchild of producer/DJ/vocalist Matt Weishaupt (aka Matty Dubz), launched in 2017 and transformed into a formidable duo in 2022 with the addition of longtime live collaborator Matt McLaren. 

Based in Albany, NY, the duo draws deep from the soul of Golden Era NY hip-hop—think J Dilla, DJ Premier, Pete Rock—while branching into the lush textures of electronic music and the improvisational spirit of the jam scene. The result? A sonic experience that’s both nostalgic and boundary-pushing.

From gritty, bassy boom-bap beats to expansive, immersive soundscapes, their music is a living collage—always evolving, always vibing.

Father Figure has lit up stages at premier festivals including Elements Music & Arts Festival, Camp Bisco, Dreamscape, Fire Lights, Karnival of the Arts, Big Dub, and NY Harvest Fest, among many others.
