“Time and Emotion” was born from one of the darkest chapters of my life. I’d just gone through a painful breakup that left me completely shattered — I genuinely didn’t want to be here anymore. Everything stopped: my drive, my emotions, even time itself. I felt empty, broken, and stuck in the wreckage of a love I couldn’t repair.

Then, out of nowhere, came an extraordinary twist of fate. A few weeks later, I was given the incredible opportunity to record my demos with my musical hero, Gary Numan, at his Outland Studio. I was just 21, he was 35 — and for three unforgettable days, we worked together, talked about music, life, and heartbreak. Gary had this quiet wisdom about him. When I told him how lost I felt, he just looked at me and said things that made me feel like I had an older brother watching over me.

Those conversations changed me. I left his studio feeling alive again — determined to stand up, dust myself off, and grab life by the throat. Gary helped me see that heartbreak wasn’t the end, but the beginning of something new.

“Time and Emotion” captures that transformation — the moment between despair and renewal, when pain gives way to purpose. It’s a song about losing everything, finding a spark in the darkness, and realising that time only truly stops if you let it.

Now, in 2025, The Sacrifices returns as an AI-reimagined version, built upon the 2014 recording but re-envisioned with fresh textures, sharper production, and a deeper cinematic edge.

This new release doesn’t erase the original—it amplifies it. The funk basslines still throb with tension, the rhythm still walks that line between bitterness and swagger, but the new AI production allows the track to breathe with the clarity and power it always deserved.

This 2025 release is a brand-new AI reimagining of that version, breathing cinematic new life into the original while keeping its spirit intact. “The Book” is one of the most emotionally raw and personal songs I’ve ever written — a classical rock ballad that captures the moment I finally told my mum the truth: that I had been sexually abused when I was around eight years old.

Written in 2003 and first released in 2014 on my debut album Time Machine – Reflecting Shattered Dreams, this 2025 AI-reimagined version breathes new life into that moment of painful honesty.

At fourteen, I was torn between silence and the unbearable weight of memory. The lyrics unfold like a confession — a boy’s attempt to open his “book of shame”, haunted by feelings too heavy for his young heart to carry. Each verse is a page from that book — fragile, fearful, but necessary to read aloud.

The arrangement builds with emotional precision — beginning with soft piano and strings, then swelling into electric guitars and orchestral textures that mirror the storm of confession. The chorus, “Why must I fall and break your heart,” captures the impossible fear of hurting the one person who’d always protected me.

The closing line — “I cried” — is not just a lyric, it’s the truth. There’s no dramatic ending, only the release that comes when silence is finally broken.

“The Book” isn’t about blame; it’s about courage — the courage to speak, to face the pain, and to begin healing.

“A Child’s War” The original 2003 composition by Dean R. Chandler is a haunting cinematic ballad that captures the horror, heartbreak, and humanity found within the chaos of conflict. Originally composed as part of Human Odyssey, it tells the story of a man torn between survival and despair — a father haunted by the cries of his son and the memory of his wife as war consumes everything around him.

Through powerful orchestration, emotional vocals, and vivid storytelling, the song explores the innocence lost in war, the spiritual battle between faith and fear, and the desperate plea for peace in a world gone mad.

This 2025 AI reimagining takes the track in a new direction — it would’ve fit perfectly in my Cold Jack set from ’94/’95, or as a dark, cinematic James Bond–style theme.

This is not just a song — it’s a cinematic journey through the eyes of those who never chose to fight, but must. A tribute to the fallen, the forgotten, and the survivors who still carry the sound of their children’s cries.

This version is an AI interpretation — a creative reimagining that offers a glimpse of what’s to come. The official non-AI version will be released in January 2027 as part of Dean’s upcoming concept album, A Human Odyssey.

“THE STORM - A LOVE DIVIDED” (AI Version)

The Storm is a raw and intimate AI re-imagining of a demo named 'The Storm' I recorded a few years ago. This isn’t the official release — it’s a standalone cover of my own original song, which will finally appear in its true form on 23 January 2027 when A Human Odyssey launches.

This version shifts the lens.
Instead of the album’s storyline — where the song belongs to a man on the brink of ending his life after losing his son — this take explores the agony of two lovers who cannot be together. Circumstances keep them apart, and the separation is tearing their souls to pieces. Both are crying out to God for strength, clinging on by a thread as the darkness closes in. The female vocal brings a different kind of ache to the track… one that feels like two hearts praying across a storm.

In the wider Human Odyssey universe, this song actually exists across multiple timelines.
The 2025 album version is about grief, abandonment, and the breaking of a father’s heart.
But there may also be a 1566 version — a love-song interpretation set in the Tudor/Norse thread of the story, where two soulmates feel God is once again keeping them apart.
If this were ever a film, The Storm would echo through the centuries in different forms — each one carrying the same plea: “My God, why have you forsaken me?”

This AI version is simply another window into that same emotion… just told through love rather than loss.

I’m Dean R. Chandler — a London based songwriter, recording artist, and storyteller. My music is rooted in a lifelong search for meaning, weaving together themes of love, loss, faith, alien contact, and humanity’s future.

My upcoming double concept album Human Odyssey (set for release in January 2027) is the culmination of decades of writing and reflection. I previously released Time Machine – Reflecting Shattered Dreams (2014) and continue to revisit my archive of songs written across 35 years, reimagining them with today’s tools and sounds. Some pieces remain intimate and acoustic, while others expand into dark rock, industrial, or orchestral landscapes — but all are connected by a focus on emotional honesty and cinematic storytelling.

Beyond music, I’m fascinated by the intersection of creativity and technology. I’ve been experimenting with AI-driven composition and production to bring old demos to life and to spark entirely new works. For me, these tools are not replacements for human artistry but extensions of it — ways of unlocking stories and emotions that otherwise might have remained hidden.
