What if Bob Dylan grew up on H.P. Lovecraft stories and  Tony Iommi riffs?

The bleak brainchild of singer/songwriter Christopher Thomas Elliott, Buzzard combines the heavy riffing of Black Sabbath, the storytelling of Trad Folk, and dark themes from Weird Fiction, SF, Horror, and satire.

Inspired by Zeal & Ardor, Bill Hicks, and Thomas Ligotti, Christopher Thomas Elliott wrote, performed, and recorded Buzzard in his basement studio in the wilds of Western Massachusetts. As a solo artist and half of male/female folk duo  Austin & Elliott, he has performed around New England since the early 1990s, from coffeehouses to listening rooms, winning multiple songwriting awards. His acoustic music often dealt with love gone wrong and death done right.

Now Christopher Thomas Elliott goes all in on the dark side with Buzzard.  His original songs deal with the apocalypse, Satan, death, evil, zombies, aliens, social strife, misanthropy, drugs, and doom – with a dash of pitch-black wit.

The name “Kentucky Jim” first appeared as a surprise liner note from my old friend Charlie Chesterman—and it stuck like a catchy chorus. I hail from Sugartit, Kentucky (yes, it’s real—Google it), where my musical journey kicked off with a band and a full tank of gas. In 1986, I hit the road and eventually found a home in Boston’s legendary music scene, where I spent two unforgettable decades playing clubs, theaters, festivals, and just about any room with a stage. These days, I hang my hat in Washington, D.C., and keep the tunes rolling.

I’ve been the bass guy since I was 15, holding down the low end in bands big and small. While I dabble in a little bit of everything—especially a solo ukulele set that’s become a personal joy—upright bass is my true north. I switched to double bass about 20 years ago, and every gig still teaches me something new. It’s an instrument that keeps you humble, grounded, and grooving.

Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to play alongside an incredible cast of characters: the Bachelors of Art, Dave Sammarco Band, The Family Jewels, the LW with Chili Kurtz and Asa Brebner, and a long stretch with Charlie Chesterman & the Legendary Motorbikes. Each one shaped my sound and reminded me that music is as much about the people you play with as the notes you play.

These days, you’ll find me all over D.C.—on sidewalks, at farmer’s markets, in nightclubs—with my uke in hand or upright bass strapped in. I regularly play with; the Jelly Roll Mortals, The Grandsons, The Parklawn Ramblers, Ruthie and the Wranglers, Janine Wilson and all kinds of Bandhouse Gigs, continuing to chase the next great groove and the next good time.
