From breaking through in the early 90s right when things were still done wild, helming the legendary Lost club nights from 1992 onward, onto becoming a pioneering figure of the UK's underground, it's safe to say Steve Bicknell ticks all the boxes of a self-made myth in the scene. Tirelessly pushing the boundaries of techno as we know it, the British don has been carving out his name in gold letters amongst the pantheon of DJs capable to evolve and transcend both themselves and their audience through the cathartic power of music. Always a step ahead, Bicknell treats us to two hours of resolutely immersive and achingly powerful soul-search, seamlessly criss-crossing our brains with his top-of-the-range anti-bullshit techno medicine. EPM Podcast 172 comes from Rommek. As a well-established artist, Rommek has expanded his own sound, carving his way into the current techno and experimental scenes since 2013.  His extensive interest in sound design is crafted within the dense atmospheres, heavy broken rhythms and electrifying tones found within his productions. You can also find these influences in Rommek’s DJ selection, as exemplified here with a mix that goes from frenetic tribal percussion to granular sonic architecture at the flick of a switch. Featuring the likes of Tommy Four Seven, Trunkline, SLV, Benjamin Damage, ANDROM, Damon Vallero, Reeko, Tauceti, Kwartz and more Rommek applies his crafted, electronic detail to a sweat-soaked, smoke-filled rave. 

Rommek joined the seminal Blueprint Records in 2016, releasing five EPs, gaining remixes from label owner James Ruskin, Broken English Club, O/V/R (Ruskin & Regis) and Makaton, which established his position on the map. Since then, a steady output of releases on Leyla Records, Natural Selection, Mord, Hex, Loose Lips and collaborative release with the Spanish duo NX1 has expanded his discography. Fast forward to 2023, Rommek’s creative techniques were pushed further when making his debut on Tommy Four Seven’s - 47 imprint, exploring futuristic techno fused with 180 BPM genre crossovers.

Torn Relics, the experimental project between Rommek + Aimee Mullen was formed during 2018. Their debut EP, The Poisoned Chalice, released on Sacred Court, featured a remix by label owner SNTS. In 2020 the duo’s debut album: Abolish The Dogma, was released on Leyla Records, followed by ‘Burning Injustice’ in 2021 via Instruments of Discipline.
 
Since releasing over 15 EPs, Rommek has gained a wide range of noteworthy support, from BBC Radio 1, to many features and reviews in Mixmag, The Wire, The Quietus and Faze magazine. In 2018 he was featured within the top 100 globally charted artists on Resident Advisor. Furthermore, as a touring DJ, he has played in over 20 countries around the globe. From this, it’s clear that Rommek is driven to continue expanding his capabilities and keep things moving forward.

Forever evolving and progressing her sounds, Nadia Struiwigh’s ear and passion for coaxing out the best from her array of studio gear always results in tracks with a certain je ne sais quoi. Through emotionally charged ambient releases like Pax Aurora on Nous’klaer, or Birds of Paradise on Dekmantel, her artistic freedom is a key factor that provides a freshness to her music.

Like the musical yin and yang, from Ambient to the dancefloor, Nadia’s adeptness at creating special tracks doesn’t end at the beatless border. Her live sets are stories of twisting techno, you know the kind that makes you shake your head at how well all the elements combine into one cohesive track. In line with this is her forthcoming release on the storied British imprint, Blueprint Records. Titled X1 Shift, the four tracker joins Voxis Ohlun (2024) as her second, masterclass in hardware driven techno.

Glimmerfall arrives immediately with warm waves of undulating synths bouncing and shifting in the background. Punchy kicks and a breakish pattern keep things moving along, while Nadia’s arrangement and various element choices elevate the track even more as a testament to her sequencing skills. We’ll certainly be hearing this out in many a set, and club, rightfully so.

Glimmerfall and the rest of Nadia’s X1 Shift release will be out on the 4th of April.

This Swedish duo have built an impressive reputation since their production debut in 2000 and have gone on to release music on labels including Audio Assault, Symbolism, Blueprint, H. Productions, ARMS, XXX Records, and their own Lømsk label which they launched in 2022.

In 2001 he begins to promote himself as a Dj in the local circuit playing in clubs and music festivals in south of France In 2006 a very important year for the artist, he teams up with WOH association (Way of house) members, Bastien Grine, Greg Delon, and begin to participate in the A-nimé festivals and electropulse festivals held during the summer in sout pf France. has shared decks with Marc Houle, David K, Brodinski, Nic Fancuilli, Danton Eeprom, N'To, Bastien Grine, Paul Nazca, Greg Delon, Ivan Smagghe, Jennifer Cardini, Chloe, André Dalcan, Cebb aka Sebastien Thibaud, The Dualz, Basteroid, Loulouplayers, Nhar, Da Fresh…, and others. In 2009 he meets up with George Paar in Nîmes starting a friendship that has emerged the love of underground techno. His music are a unique representation of techno in its raw nature.

Rotterdam-via-Berlin based outlet reuniting underground purveyors across the globe as they methodically scan and showcase various nerve centers from the techno Internationale.

The label was established in 2018 as a means to release the back catalogue of renowned Jungle Techno label Underdog Recordings, which ran from 1993-1995. It quickly expanded from beyond the original goal and now reissues sought after, rare and classic records from the Jungle, Rave, Bleep House, Techno and Jungle Techno genres.

The Vinyl Fanatiks aim is to track down and work with the original artists from the early 1990’s, to reissue their music on vinyl only, and to support the record hunters and vinyl diggers from around the world with quality pressings and superb mastering; a way to show respect and share the story of those that created these incredible records.

The vision is not to focus on the obvious artists of that time but to dig a little deeper and find those that came and went but their legacy still holds true to this day. Some of these producers only released one record and vanished soon after but their music still resonates into the 21st century, accumulating new audiences across the globe, far beyond the catchment of the UK pirate radios and muddy fields of 25 years ago. What happened to these artists? Its Vinyl Fanatik’s mission to find out!

Each record captures a moment in time, a vibe that was true and innocent from a period when music was far more synonymous with rebellion and anarchy than today’s finely polished productions and conformist club pop. This music itself bred on the outskirts of society, fuelled by the passion of the rave, its lineage stemming from the Acid House era of 1988. Often produced on minimal equipment, with minimal skills and knowledge, its audio blueprint transcends to new generations, a rawness that no expensive audio plug in could ever create in this present day.

Vinyl Fanatiks wants to pay homage to these young producers who forged the foundations of the multi-million pound EDM scene we have now. Each of these artists has their own tale to tell, their own memories to share. Limited by their own geographical status within the UK, they somehow still all managed to connect and influence each other, years before the internet, mobile phones and social media that we have today. But the music knew no limits and had no boundaries, transcending generations to this day.
