Softer (Live & Alone Recording)

I sat down to write Winter Son drowning in the unknown. My father had been diagnosed with cancer. As I began to write, the song took on a life of its own. It became a retrospective of relationships and places that were meaningful to me; an emotional journey and tapestry of memories. When I had finished I was surprised that I had woven light and hope into a raw and wintery, pop-folk story.

Tried another mix of Alanis' early 90s Canada-only dance-pop single 'Plastic'. I wasn't too crazy about the first mix I made, was rather lackluster. I'm happier with this one but I left the original up. Lifted the vocal from that track. Bass and drum are from En Vogue's 'Time Goes On (Extended Remix). Keyboard is from Leeen's 'I Need'. Strings (I distorted them) are from Cathy Dennis' 'You Lied to Me'. Organ is from David Morales' 'Respect (Def Classic Mix).

Alanis - Plastic (MJB:217 Better Plastic Remix)

One of the first mixes I uploaded here was this song - seven months ago in Feb 2024. Since then, I've (arguably) gotten a bit better at remixing, I wanted to go back and re-do this song because it's one of my favourite songs from the 90s. I left the original on my profile so that I could go back and hear the progress during that seven month span, if I ever choose to. I kept some things from the first mix that I liked (the bass line and a sound effect from Alanis' 'Plastic' along with a drum roll from the album version of this song). All other parts are new. Track is not being monetized.

French Canadian singer, Mitsou, released the song 'Deep Kiss' in 1992. It was pretty popular in Canada at that time. In it's original format, it is a dance song. I just made it dancier!

Legend of the Origin of Animals According to Inuit Beliefs
At the beginning of the world, according to the Inuit, there was only one man and one woman. The woman asked Kaila, the sky god, for help in populating the Earth. Kaila ordered her to dig a hole in the ice and catch fish. So, one by one, the animals emerged: seals, bears, birds… until finally the caribou appeared. This was the most precious gift, as it would feed the people, provide shelter, and provide tools.
But humans began hunting only the largest and most beautiful caribou, weakening the species. So, the woman asked for help again. Kaila sent the wolf, sent by Amarok, the wolf spirit, to eat the weak and sick animals, thus maintaining balance.
Other Key Elements of Inuit Mythology
• Animals have souls (anirniit): They are not hunted, but allow themselves to be hunted. The hunter performs a ritual for their souls to return to the spirit world.
• Death and rebirth: Part of the soul goes to heaven or hell, another part is reincarnated in a newborn if given the name of an ancestor.
• Giants and goblins: In distant lands, the Inuit encountered the Tuniqs, fearsome giants, and cheerful little goblins that fit in the palm of the hand.

The Legend of N'ha-a-itk. The Guardian of the Lake
In ancient times, when the Syilx Indigenous people lived in harmony with the land and water, Okanagan Lake was more than a body of water: it was a living being, a profound spirit called N'ha-a-itk, which means "lake serpent."
Elders said that N'ha-a-itk was not simply a physical creature, but a spiritual manifestation that protected the balance of the ecosystem. His body was long and undulating, like a sea serpent or a wingless dragon, and it was said that he could appear in times of imbalance or when humans forgot their pacts with nature.
The Ancestral Pact
Before crossing the lake, the Syilx performed rituals and offered symbolic sacrifices—often animals or food—to honor N'ha-a-itk and ask for safe passage. This act was not one of fear, but of respect: they understood that the lake had a will, and that the spirit that inhabited it should be treated with reverence.
The Transformation into Ogopogo
With the arrival of European settlers, the figure of N'ha-a-itk was reinterpreted. In the 20th century, sightings of a creature in the lake began to circulate, and it was christened Ogopogo, a name inspired by a popular song of the time. Although the image of the monster became more commercial and touristic, many inhabitants of the region still recognize its Indigenous and spiritual roots.

After stripping myself from the media-enforced fantasies of love, appearance, and friendships, I was able to see myself clearly for the first time. And to fall in love with myself! That’s what my music is all about. Behind each motif, synths, drums, and massive backing vocals, there is one big message: Hope, as a self-perpetuating motion machine.

My music will provide a glimpse of my soul and show you how much of a sucker for love I am. I am your hopeful romantic with an inner childlike sense of whimsy. I approach my writing from a 3-dimensional statement as I want it to be an experience for the listener. Being able to share my music with you is what keeps my heart warm.
