There’s no question that changing the food that you eat every day can have a huge impact on your thyroid. 

For this reason, thyroid patients are always looking for the best diet. 

This search for the best diet leads a lot of them to the carnivore diet which promotes itself as one of the best diets available.

But is it true and should you try it if you have thyroid problems?

I’m going to argue no, for 4 main reasons: 

1. Carbohydrates are needed for optimal thyroid function. 
Low-carb diets have been associated with low T3 levels and high reverse T3 levels, the same pattern seen in chronic illness. 

2. Decreased carbohydrate intake increases sex hormone binding globulin and decreases the activity of sex hormones. 
Low-carb diets like carnivore can increase SHBG which can reduce free testosterone and free estradiol levels. This can then impact your thyroid. 

3. There are better ways to lose weight. 
There’s nothing magical about the carnivore diet that you can’t get with other whole-food diets. 

4. Low-carb diets cause sleep disturbances. 
Thyroid patients already have trouble with sleep and going low carb can make this problem even worse.

298. Mastering Anger: How Emotionally Healthy People Stay in Control

Two Interbay tracks in a row with titles starting with "X"?  What are the odds of that?  
(Answer:  One in twenty-six.)  

Once again, I looked for inspiration on a list of cool words that start with the letter "X"--and I found the word "xarque."  That is a damn cool word--but I had no idea what it meant.  I looked it up, and the first response I got was:  

Xarque (n) means Charqui.  

Well, that explains it!  

So I had to look up Charqui...and that lead to a deep rabbit hole of culture and recipes.

Xarque is, basically, an outdated word to refer to South American jerky--salted and dried meat.  Supposedly, the best charqui is made from llama, though there are some countries that will use horse--can't say I've had much desire to eat either, to be honest...  In fact, I've never been big on beef jerky (or any other kind of jerky--I like my dried meats to not need to be gnawed on to eat...so give me a summer sausage stick over jerky, every time.  BUT, this isn't a song about summer sausage sticks...so, back to the description for "Xarque.")  

Most of the modern recipes in the articles I've found suggest that charqui is still popular in Bolivia, but it goes back to ancient Mesoamerican cultures and variants of it can still be found in most South and Central American countries.  

...definitely not something that is in my personal cultural frame of reference, but if the worst thing that happens from this Interbay music project is that I learn things I didn't know before--that's not a bad thing.  

However, I started selecting some of the vocal elements before I knew as much as I know now--so, my choice of the "Heat It Up" sample doesn't fit as well as I thought it would (and I liked it enough to keep it anyway.)  

I think I thought that the "charq" part of the word connected to "charcoal"--it doesn't.  

However, one thing I like about using the occasional royalty-free vocal sample is that there's no lyric sheet included (generally.)  Sometimes, the singer's diction isn't strong and sometimes I put certain effects on vocals that make it harder to know for certain what is being said or sung--which can lead to different interpretations of what the lyrics are supposed to be.  (Not to mention, the labels put on these samples are often inexact if not entirely wrong.)  

So, if you hear that particular vocal as "Eat it Up" instead of "Heat It Up"...that might make more sense.   

(Consider this your "Laurel/Yanny" or "blue and black dress vs white and gold dress" opportunity.  For me its like the "is the ballerina spinning clockwise or counter-clockwise illusion," because I now can hear it both ways.)  

...and plus, you can use this salted dried meat in a stew (charquekan)...so "Heat It Up" still works...  

Meanwhile, the music of "Xarque" is definitely on the rockier side of electronic dance music.  (Yes, the cowbell at the beginning is a sly reference to a Loverboy song--you can take the boy out of the Midwest, but you can't take the AOR out of the boy.)  

The track is definitely "acoustic drum forward"--indeed, there's a long section where I think there's ONLY drums backing the vocals.  The track began with me pounding out a drum rhythym and finding the rest of the song from there.  Drum forward, yes, but, don't worry, there's still tons of synthesizer sounds flying back and forth across the stereo spectrum.  It IS an Interbay track, after all.  (And if you haven't tried it, listening to Interbay on headphones is a very different experience than just hearing it on your phone.)
