I wrote Lost Profit during a time when faith and identity were tangled together so tightly I couldn’t tell where one ended and the other began. It’s about growing up being told your light was wrong, holy for the wrong reasons, or meant to serve someone else’s story. It’s about the anger and clarity that come when you realize you were never broken.

Inside ROADRUNNER, Lost Profit is the moment of spiritual defiance. It’s the part of the journey where you refuse the role you were written into and speak anyway. No choir behind you, no path laid out, no promise of being understood. Just a voice that won’t stay silent, even if it means walking into the fire alone.

This song is about reclaiming truth without needing it to be profitable. It’s about being seen or unseen, crowned or dismissed, and choosing to burn with integrity either way.

In the world of ROADRUNNER, this is the internal shutdown sequence. The quiet collapse before the sprint. The moment where the whole self flickers, freezes, and hangs in that blank screen between who you were and whoever you’re supposed to become. It’s not dramatic. But it’s defeated and honest.

 It’s meant to feel like being trapped inside your own circuitry, hearing the hum of a machine that won’t boot, sitting in the static of uncertainty with no guarantee of a restart.

I wrote 5 of Swords right after a 36-hour crash out. It's the kind of collapse where time stops behaving and everything feels stretched thin and heavy. This was the first song written for the project, born in that raw, blurry place where exhaustion turns existential and every step forward somehow loops you right back to where you started.

In the world of ROADRUNNER, this is the breaking point before the story even begins. It’s the moment where the self is frayed, patience is gone, and the weight of your own thoughts becomes its own battlefield. There’s no victory here, no revelation. It's just the quiet surrender of someone falling on their own sword because there’s nothing left to fight with.

Sonically, 5 of Swords feels like limbo: droning, restless, cycling in place. Vocals that sound like someone barely staying upright, production that circles back on itself the way the mind does when it’s tired and spiraling. It’s meant to feel suspended like the days are too long, the nights too loud, and you’re waiting for something to break that never does.

I wrote Used 2ba Stoner as the doorway into the world of ROADRUNNER , as the moment where the narrator steps out of the haze, looks straight at the listener, and admits that the road ahead is going to hurt. The thesis is simple: healing’s not a high. It’s a runner on the road. This is the narrator choosing endurance over escape, sweat over shortcuts, truth over numbness. It kicks off Book 2 of The Books of Beam, setting the tone for everything that comes next.

In the world of ROADRUNNER, this song is the invocation. It’s the narrator saying, “The story I’m about to tell you is about grit, relapse, effort, and the long crawl toward becoming someone real. And yeah, it would be so much easier if I could just smoke something and coast. But I’m doing this the hard way this time.” It’s the announcement that the journey won’t be pretty, but it will be honest.

Sonically, Used 2ba Stoner is a loud ignition, a digital chorus swelling behind the narrator like a cracked-open sky, the first hit of the raw, jagged textures that define ROADRUNNER. It’s meant to sound like the engine turning over, the body waking up, the first gasp before the sprint. I wrote mile marker for that exact instant when exhaustion turns emotional... when the run stops feeling heroic and starts feeling like a slow unraveling. It’s the midpoint of the journey, the place where you’ve been sprinting for miles and nothing looks different, where you can’t tell if you’re making progress or just circling your own ghosts. It’s sadness in motion: heavy, repetitive, familiar.

In the world of ROADRUNNER, this is the last deep sigh before everything breaks open. It’s the mile where the body feels hollow, the spirit feels scraped down, and you start bargaining with yourself about whether the finish line is worth it. You’re not who you were, but you’re not transformed yet either ... you’re stuck in the liminal ache, running beside shadows that feel as real as old memories you can’t fully name. This is the emotional low-visibility moment right before the clarity hits.
