Philip and Jodi review and discuss 'Tron: Ares', the third film in Disney's TRON saga starring Jared Leto and Greta Lee, directed by Joachim Rønning. The film further expands on TRON's themes of technology and its effect on humanity by bringing objects--and people--from the computer world into reality. Tech giant Dillinger Systems uses a laser device developed by its rival Encom, depicted in the original 'Tron', to print vehicles and soldiers with the aims of securing military contracts. Encom employs a similar laser prototyping process, but both companies lack the "permanence code" that prevents the printed objects from eventually disintegrating. It is believed that former Encom CEO Kevin Flynn held the permanence code, and has hidden it somewhere at Encom. This puts current CEO Eve Kim in danger as her rival, Julian Dillinger, becomes impatient for a breakthrough, believing he has sculpted the perfect warrior in Ares, the Master Control Program. Ares must lead a team in the real world to kidnap Eve who has recently acquired the code, but he must do so quickly since each of his "lifespans" last only 29 minutes.... I recently found the raw mix of an old college band of mine. The band was called Shrooms - and I’m still not sure why. :)

When I listened to it again after all these years, I felt it deserved to be shared here. Back then, this recording was intended as a demo to be sent to the festival committee at our college. Everything in those days felt more structured and thoughtfully planned.

Of course, I have to give credit to everyone who contributed to making this recording possible. Most of us were between 19 and 22 years old at the time - the year was 2009, if I’m not mistaken.


Bass Guitar: Burak Durmaz - he was the oldest member of the band, kind of leading us, and he’s the one who mainly made this record possible, in my humble opinion. Let’s give him the credit. :)

I have always had an admiration of electronic synthesizer music. Particularly that of the the late 1970's and consequently the golden age of the 1980's, where groups like Depeche Mode, Japan, Gary Numan, OMD, Human League made their mark.

A bizarre influence was Mantovani to name a few. 

He was an Anglo-Italian conductor, composer and light orchestra-styled entertainer with a cascading strings musical signature

All these musicians were a great influence on myself and the music I now produce.

Along with the bass guitar, in which in my opinion works so well with this genre of music, I am happy with the sound produced in my compositions.
So here I am, producing my own brand of the quintessence sound.

Coronardefekt is an electronic music project from Halle (Saale), Germany, that has been developing the connection between sound, technology, and emotion since the early 1990s.

My journey began in 1992, when a fascination with electronic sound generation and synthesizers laid the foundation for everything that followed. Influenced by Depeche Mode, Front 242, Delerium, Front Line Assembly, Dead Can Dance, and many others, I began creating my own sonic worlds – dark, driving, and emotional.

My music moves freely between Electro, House, EBM, Hip-Hop, and experimental sound structures – everything that inspires, excites, and moves me. I produce with a variety of synthesizers and analog sound sources – including the Yamaha MOXF6, Microkorg-S, Deepmind 12, Arturia Microbrute, Yamaha DX7, and Behringer TD-3-BU – with Ableton Live as the creative hub.

Each track is created with a focus on atmosphere, texture, and emotion – an expression of my personal sound journey. So far, all releases have remained private, but the essence lies in the creative process itself: sound research, sound design, and the pure joy of electronic music.

I don’t see myself as a product, but as an ongoing experiment – a project that grows, transforms, and continually redefines itself.

I’ve complained in the past about modern music needing a jolt of innovation without coming off as pretentious. Phidippus seems to epitomize the desire to make great music while refusing to keep to one specific formula, making his trajectory as an artist fascinating to watch. I find Phidippus to be an immensely underappreciated musician who just needs one big hit to make his name reverberate throughout the densely packed world of electronica, and I hope that that day comes sooner rather than later.

1974: Eric Salazar, aka Phidippus, is conceived then born shortly after.
1984: Plays first instrument, the autoharp.
1985: Joins a break dancing troop.
1986: Dad buys Amiga 1000. 'Sampled' music discovered.
1990: Gets hands on an Ensoniq EPS-16+ sampling workstation and proceeds to make bad music.
1998: CD EP, "Voluptuous", released. After receiving a demo copy, the staff of Peter Gabriel's record label enjoy the CD as they write memos.
1999: Produces remixes for New Vision Recordings and other labels in the UK.
2000: Mercedes, Smirnoff and other companies license Eric's music to promote their products.
2001: Launches New Vision America, a record label. After three singles are released, the label dies a quiet death.
2005: Scores the best selling game, "Belle's Beauty Boutique". What? Its cute.
2008: Releases full length CD, "ES: When I was Emptyhead 1997-2007". The CD goes on to receive airplay in major markets and commendations from the press, including such publications as Knowledge and XLR8R.
2011: Remixes artists such as The B-52s, Summer Channel and Sasha.
2013: Starts producing under the name Phidippus and begins work on the '170' project.
2019: 'When I was Emptyhead 1997-2007' is re-released under the Phidippus moniker and is made available in all major online music 
2022: The hip hop single 'Starfish featuring Cap'n Fresh' achieves airplay in 30 states.
2024: Begins screwing around with AI and by 2025 releases 5 albums of AI assisted music.

My music is what you listen to when the city sleeps and the neon lights tell secrets. It's the legacy of an artisan who puts his heart into every beat, inspired by the pioneers.

V-DECK is more than just a name. It is the sound of solitude becoming a strength, a call to find yourself in the middle of the chaos, the urge to let go through dance to finally feel free.

As the son of a professional flamenco singer, Thomas has always been surrounded by music.  Exposure to flamenco influenced him because it has a dynamic range of emotions—from the "deep singing" style of cante hondo, to the more lively alegrias.  He has also worked in the corporate, independent, and online music industry for a number of years.  At one point he was a Content Manager for the Electronic Music genre at MP3.com, where he screened over 500 songs per day.  Exposure to a wide range of music explains the range of genres in his mixes—he uses whatever carries the mood.  From listening to Umm Kulthum's "Enta Omri" in his childhood, to New Wave and  Industrial as a teen, it became difficult for him to stick to one sound. Though vinyl was his original format of choice when he started in the 90s, the use of digital mixing has helped him better form soundscapes to expand your headspace.  Let him play with your moods for a spell.
