Φ Session 004 — Zetaka

The relationship between the visual and auditory creative realms is a close one. Equally as expressive, and open to experimentation, both seem to elevate the other when done tastefully and in combination. It comes to no surprise then, that our premiere for today is from a collaboration between Javier Marimon, and Daniel[i], as JD. A great producer outright, Javier Marimon’s visual contributions range far and wide in our scene, through various label logos, club flyers, album artworks and more, his touch is undeniable, and recognizable. Equally so for his German counterpart on the release, as Daniel[i]'s productions are near and dear to all our hearts.

Continuing a structure of other prior collaborations and releases on Off Tangent, focused around shortened production periods and an emphasis on raw sessions, Javier and Daniel[i]’s time together has coalesced into the seventh release on Javier’s imprint. Titled Segments I and II, the two tracker sits well within the wheelhouse of both artists, shedding light on what is possible from a few meetings and a knack for when something is finished.

Segment II arrives precisely when it means to. Each element unfolds at its own pace, maintaining tension, movement, keeping things interesting however deftly so. Not overt, but subtle. Textures, and off kilter bass lines intermix with muted melodies and cast a shadow over all.

Segments I and II will be released on the 28th of May on Off Tangent Recs.

PREMIERE: JD - Segment II [Off Tangent Recs]

The heat waves have subsided to a degree, breezes sweep the green trees throughout Brooklyn. After a break, I’m happy to be out walking again, street by street, watching life unfold in the warm New York summer. On the horizon though is my favorite time of the year, Fall will make itself known and plenty of good tidings with it.

Unrushed and enjoying life slowly in Berlin since 2016. U N R U S H is an experiment in sound and ambience, created to facilitate moments where you can find calm in your mind, when the world can encourage you to fast forward, blink and miss some of the beauty. Atmosphere through audio can help us reduce stress, stimulate ideas and creativity or just relax and soak in what’s around us. The label and podcast series is applauded by artists across corners of the electronic music scene, and their contributions are an insight to the music we all need, when we aren’t living life in the fast lane. Where we can find inner peace, clarity and embrace reflection.

Unrush maintains such a nice, measured pace that they continue to release on tape, a taste of the 80s. This physical medium captures a point in time, yet still holds a vital place today and in the future. This December sees their 6th overall release and their third on the tape format with 7 tracks: The Unrush Tapes 03 with Chie Otomi / Daniel[i] & Lukas Freisem.

In Aachen, Germany, Daniel[i] and Lukas Freisem have long been musical comrades, but this release on Unrush is their first official collaboration, in addition to being Lukas Freisem’s debut release. Daniel[i] is a name we love to see on any lineup or upcoming release, thanks to his work on Mojuba, Muzan Editions, and his own platform, Whispering Signals. Over the weekend, my music partner, Jake (Passaat), and I opened with his track 'En Trance' at a Pintai event in London — another example of the ambient brilliance in Daniel[i]'s locker, warming the room exactly the way we intended. I first discovered Lukas Freisem's talent at La Nature Festival in 2024, where his all-vinyl morning set—delivered with impeccable class, elegance, and a warm smile and sway — absolutely blew me away, top vibe. Finding out he was a mind and digger behind the operations at Tam Tam Records in Aachen solidified it: an incredible DJ, and now I can now say he is also an incredible producer, too.

Crackles, distortion. It feels timeless. Their sound flirts with rhythm, it wants to get going, but instead, it remains patient, a solid foundation. Above this foundation, layers of ebb and flow. These ebbs and flows come as long, inhaled pauses, hazy chords, and a gentle expansion and retraction, like soft breathing. It’s on Unrush, you get the picture, it’s gentle and facilitates the perfect focus for any time of day.

‘The Unrush Tapes 03’ is released digitally & on cassette on December 5th.

PREMIERE: Daniel[i] & Lukas Freisem - Too many Winds [Unrush]

From opposite corners of quiet geographies — Osaka and Aachen — comes a meeting of slow motion and open air.

Side A drifts with Chie Otomi, whose remarkable command of the synthesizer brings subtle depth and shimmer to every phrase. She shapes weightless tones and soft-field frequencies, tracing small constellations of stillness. Each layer moves like light through fog — present, but never insisting.

Side B unfolds with Danieli[i] & Lukas Freisem, marking their first collaboration. Their music hints at rhythm but remains firmly rooted in the abstract, moving rather in soft pulses and suspended motion. Together they sculpt a shared horizon from blurred chords and gentle resonance. The pieces breathe in long pauses, allowing space to feel almost tactile — a gentle expansion rather than a direction.

Together, these two sides form a dialogue of patience: moments that unfold at their own pace, inviting the listener to lean into slowness, to let time unspool.

After establishing itself over the years as a steady source of left-field techno, ambient & experimental electronic music, Delayed has evolved into a multi-faceted platform consisting of weekly premieres, DJ mixes, live recordings, interviews, editorials & launched its own record label, @never-late, in 2023. Regularly collaborating with artists, record labels, collectives, annual festivals & niche gatherings, Delayed provides glimpses into a variety of rich ecosystems & sub cultures around the world. I had the idea to start an own podcast series for quite a while now but I was a bit afraid to be honest. I wanted to keep it in a radio show format, as this is the format I grew up with and this was how I’ve discovered music. Also I wanted to do something different as I have a pretty wide range in music which I like. I get influenced by so many things so I thought it might be interesting for you to take this platform as the concept for a podcast. I will dig deeper and deeper through my collection of records and present it to you each month. It doesn’t matter how new or old the music is, it’s just about creating a good vibe to listen to, to enter another dimension.

Moreover the idea is also to invite guests, in irregular intervals - people I respect for what they are doing music wise and for the culture.

Music is able to lift you into other dimensions, so come with me through this portal and immerse into the depths of my record collection.
