Well, that was a blast… This podcast literally poured out of my soul this week. I have been so locked into it that I may have not left my apartment in seven straight days… (gonna have to maybe go outside today, hehe). This mix was not planned whatsoever and just kinda happened. It’s got a ton of layers with 3-4 tracks playing at a time throughout, the newer hybrid mixing style I’ve been applying to my recent sets where songs flow into and out from one another multiple times, and a bunch of OG SAMPLING which is my absolute favorite thing to do. Like—I could literally sample forever cuz it is SO much fun. At first I went with keywords to find tracks (thank you* for helping) and stuck with a predominantly tech house style, but then I decided to weave in some classics and retakes on old school productions to give it the CLUB energy edge that got me into electronic music. "We put all of these philosophical concepts into our lyrics." Sister Bliss talks about the band after Maxi Jazz, weaving politics into rave anthems and the dance floor as salvation.

Even if you're not into electronic music, chances are you've heard tracks like "Insomnia" or "God Is A DJ" on the radio or in a film. These '90s rave anthems were written by Faithless, a British electronic band that received huge acclaim in the UK especially. Its original members, who launched the project in 1995, were Sister Bliss, Rollo and charismatic lead singer Maxi Jazz, who died in 2022. At their peak, they sold millions of records, performed all over the world and played giant festivals like Coachella and Glastonbury to hundreds of thousands of people. 

Faithless is now toured solely by Sister Bliss, the keyboardist and songwriter. She speaks with Chloe Lula about the band's trajectory and the legacy left behind by Maxi Jazz. In her words, Faithless appeals to such a wide audience because its output isn't dance floor music in a traditional sense. Instead, it occupies a space where poetry, beats and melodies meet. With Maxi Jazz as their frontman, the group spoke to themes around human rights, politics, protest, equity, collapse, spirituality and the notion of dance music as a secular religion. Their transcendent live shows—which Sister Bliss will revive in 2025—have even been called a "church for the unchurched." Maxi Jazz was a practicing Buddhist monk whose lyrics and message of connection and compassion touched legions of fans over the years. 

In this Exchange, Sister Bliss reflects on Maxi Jazz's death, being a mother on the road, continuing to release music under the Faithless banner and what it ultimately means to find salvation in faith, music, community and life at large. Listen to the episode in full.

Hi, this is my last set played for the opening of Rave-olution who took place in Lyttleton last April.
My last set before going back to Europe for a while, that was a great night, we are so proud of the outcome!! The idea for this set was to start with something groovy then progressively going to something more techno from the 90's; I tried to change the mood during the set to keep it interesting, I also played a HI NRG track from the 80'S. Hardware was Traktor S4 Mk3 + F1. Hope you will enjoy it!!

Now 18 months into this amazing journey, the DJ in me is free again and the realisation that I produce to play live is sooooo cool, exciting and definitely a humbling learning journey!!
 A writer/ producer since Dec '23 after 22 yrs away, I'm once again exploring and celebrating my love of electronic music in all it's beautiful and diverse forms. I genuinely hope my inspirations and influences are reflected in my original tracks and that my remixes are a respectful representation of the originals and above all do them justice 🙏🎚️🎛️🎧 
I write mostly in one session as I love the rawness. (NO AI used)....I genuinely try to capture a moment, a feeling and 100 percent emotion.
 ........It's just sticking sounds together they said !!!!!............they were right, I'm finding the joy and learning is in making the sounds in whatever way fits the vibe!

  I hope, you have time because the real description is so loooong that you will be bored and might fall asleep; It's not too late to stop here, but if you continue, well, good luck!

  Hi, my name is Dorian, originally from France, currently live in New Zealand. I love hi-fi music and speakers, but my journey as dj started because a dear friend (DJ Fyrwood) introduced me / trojan horse me* to it. The irony is, now that I can play, we are not living in the same country and we can't play together.

  I'm a Traktor guy who started playing with an S8, then S8+D2, and now S4 Mk3+F1 (also got S4 Mk2 for travels). I can play on Pioneer and Denon, but I really like the stems and samples implementation of Traktor. Software wise, there's no comparison: Traktor is Traktor!

  About my music taste; I like indie, progressive, a bit of minimal, techno, trance and also feel unconditional love for music from the 80s and 90s.
  My favourite Dj is Gerd Janson, I really enjoy the groovy and uplifting atmosphere he creates. I also like Adana Twins, Enrico Sangiuliano, Eric Prydz for his show, and Adam Beyer for Drumcode.

  Sleeping yet ?? Can't hear anything, so I carry on...

  It was difficult to play gigs at the start, so with my good friend, Maia Katz, we decided to make our own gigs; so we could play.
  It's been great because we’ve learned things from different points of view and not just djing. Currently, we run two different parties: Duck Therapy and Rave-olution. Duck Therapy, usually done at night, focuses on having fun and not to stress too much organization wise. The Rave-olution is more like an afternoon party that extends into the night, we always try different venues, and we want to embrace the rave culture: focus on the music!

  Djing is a journey, just like when you learn a new activity, you start with the basics, make mistakes, feel frustrated, but with practice, you would feel more comfortable and start to focus on finding your "mixing style". I would say that my guideline is a progress in bpm and subtle change in genre along my sets. I want to create an engaging atmosphere where the emotions are balanced and don't reach the extremes.

  All right! Intro done, let's continue with the main text (it's a joke?? Hum... not sure) 

  My goal as a DJ is to create music sessions that meet my personal standards; it means a tidy and engaging set for a modest crowd during a small festival or in a club, and of course, to have fun!
  *Interest into djing is an opportunity to understand more about music, create a set with the music you like and not waiting for the next set of famous djs; It's great, but it also bring an analytical / critical mind and you end up always preferring your own stuffs because "God help thoses who help themselves". 

  My setup allows me to "sublime" my music selection and improvise on the go, so I'm not interested in records or music production: I think that there are plenty of samples and stems to play with before going down the rabbit hole of production.

  Most of my mixes posted here are either recorded at home or sets played at gigs; I'll make a description for every set (longer than this one, of course!).
  I probably said it all, so if you made it until here, I hope that my sets make you move, enjoy!
