Many people with autism experience executive functioning (EF) impairments, and its widely acknowledged that these challenges play a significant role in autism. Anxiety symptoms are highly prevalent and impairing challenges for autistic youth, and emerging evidence suggests EF impairments exacerbate anxiety. This study examines how everyday EF impairments are related to specific anxiety symptoms in autistic youth.

This research examines mGlu7, a transmembrane receptor involved in several neurodevelopmental disorders, such as Rett syndrome, ADHD, schizophrenia, and Neurofibromatosis Type 1. The project discussed studies the mechanism of mGlu7 activation by allosteric modulators to develop new treatments and help guide drug discovery efforts.

The research presented in this episode highlights theme areas of support as raised by 446 siblings of individuals with autism, cerebral palsy, and Down syndrome. It asks and answers the question: What would have been beneficial to you growing up as the sibling of a person with a disability?

Support needs of siblings who have brothers and sisters with disabilities

On this episode of Meeting Midway we discuss the Targeted System of Support Evaluation Tool (TSSET) with Nicole Jones. The purpose of this tool is to measure the implementation of Tier 2 and Tier 3 efforts among supported individuals within an organization. The tool itself, when administer, highlights consistent Tier 2 and Tier 3 efforts while also addressing gaps that need to be strengthened or areas that need to be implemented. At this time Missouri is the only state using the TSSET and is leading the rest of the nation in this approach however collaboration and connections are being made across the USA and internationally as well. On this episode of Meeting Midway we are talking with Melinda Kubisa, CEO, & Wendy Pettifer, Executive Manager, with Community Living Options Inc. in Adelaide, South Australia. Melinda and Wendy recently presented at the 2024 Association for Positive Behavior Support conference in Chicago, IL. Their presentation was titled "Evidenced Based Positive Behavior Support for Quality of Life and A Home In the Community". Melinda and Wendy discuss a residential service program they developed in South Australia to help individuals with complex needs and co-occurring diagnoses (behavioral health and IDD) transition out forensic treatment settings or institutional settings into the community through the use of a Positive Behavioral Support (PBS) and a Multi Tiered System of Support (MTSS) model. The success of their program has shown the power and effectiveness of PBS and MTSS as they have seen zero recidivism for the population they support, but most importantly an increase in autonomy, personal liberty, and quality of life. Our discussion centers around this program while providing context around funding with Australia's National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Please see additional below…
