JD Twitch began his journey into music and djing in 1987, just in time for the arrival of Acid House and Rave. He started two legendary Scottish clubs - Pure and Optimo, the latter a duo with Jonnie Wilkes which recently celebrated 25 years of global touring, outrageous parties, and communitarian activism. He produces, remixes, promotes, presents radio shows, music supervises for films and runs the hard to pigeonhole Optimo Music label.

The situation we’re witnessing in Gaza is heartbreaking. While the world watches, over 30,000 innocent Palestinian people, many of whom were children, have been killed and over 70,000 more injured in attacks since October 7th. Homes, neighbourhoods and cities have been destroyed, and most of the population has been displaced and left without food, clean drinking water, electricity and fuel. 

The UK government has continued to allow Israel’s bombardment in the region and chosen not to back consistent calls for a ceasefire, despite the overwhelming majority of the UK public being in favour.

In an effort to raise money for Palestinian aid charities, I’ve reached out to lots of talented artists who have kindly contributed their music to this incredibly important cause. 

Sonically it traverses chugging electronics, proto electro, Italo dance, UK techno and leftfield bass from artists like JD Twitch, Ambien Baby, Lisene, GoodMostlyBad and Azo, all of whom are joining our call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

All proceeds from the compilation will be split 50/50 between two charities who are working hard to provide support and humanitarian aid in Gaza: Medical Aid Palestine and War Child UK.

PREMIERE: JD Twitch - Question Authority [Human Endeavour]

On May 25th 2024, to accompany the launch of his Arthur Russell book "Travels Over Feeling" Richard King put together an event at London's Barbican celebrating Arthur's life with an all star musical cast recreating and reimagining his music.

I was thrilled to be invited to play a DJ set in the foyer afterwards. I have been an Arthur Russell devotee for 30 years and decided to play an all Arthur Russell DJ set*. The atmosphere was very special with lots of love transmitting back and forth from the DJ booth to the dancefloor. I really felt a freedom to slowly build it up playing so many of my favourite AR tracks and it was one of my very favourite DJ gis of 2024 so far.


*Full disclosure - there was an additional 30 minutes finale of this set that didn't record where I played non Arthur Russell, disco / disco adjacent records.

Tony Morris is a 72-year-old artist from Glasgow who began exploring various creative pursuits in his late 60s, including music-making, video creation, poetry, and live performance. Often referred to as the "Minimal Synth Ivor Cutler," he has built a large and dedicated following on social media, and his live performances have been met with rapturous acclaim. A recent performance at an Optimo night in Glasgow was met with riotous enthusiasm, with teenage girls screaming his name - this is 100% true.  

Tony has been in communication with JD Twitch for years, making his debut release on Optimo Music a natural fit. His first single is a cover of Dimensional Holofonic Sound's seminal track "House Of God," a song that holds special significance for JD Twitch, who has been playing it since 1990 and has sampled it in multiple remixes (shhhh!). JD Twitch couldn’t resist the opportunity to remix Tony’s version, completing a compelling release package. Tony’s unparalleled rendition of “House Of God”  may well be one of the most unique dancefloor tracks of the year.

Playing Out Of Time 018 [tribute to Keith McIvor] - July 4 2025

This celebratory mix of Optimo (Espacio) and particularly Keith (aka JD Twitch's legacy could've been 10 hours long, such is the length and breadth of great music Keith has turned me on to. Whole strata of underground music were first brought to my ears in sweaty nights at Optimo's legendary Sunday night residency at the Sub Club in Glasgow. Even beyond the club nights, the Optimo Music label often drains my Bandcamp funds with its incredible roster of talent.
