Here is my cover of "I Will Wait for You", the English version of "Je ne pourrai jamais vivre sans toi", the song from the French musical The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964 – music by Michel Legrand, original lyrics by Jacques Demy). It was performed in the film by Catherine Deneuve, whose voice was dubbed by Danielle Licari. 
The English lyrics of the song were written by Norman Gimbel (version nominated for the Academy Award for Best Song at the 38th Academy Awards held in 1966). 
This song was covered by three artists in 1966 : Connie Francis (album Movie Greats of the 60's), Vikki Carr (album The Way of Today!) and Frank Sinatra (album That's Life). 
I chose as an illustration the painting "The Port of Cherbourg" by Berthe Morisot (1871). 
Berthe Morisot (1841-1895) was a French painter, co-founder and female figurehead of the avant-garde movement known as Impressionism.

i will wait for you - The Umbrellas of Cherbourg

Un rebelde sin pista (y sin causa) que deambula en los días y noches de su barrio. Una mujer obsesionada con el sentido de su propio nombre. Un taxista enamorado de su auto. Los protagonistas de los primeros filmes de Martin Rejtman (Rapado, Silvia Prieto, Los guantes mágicos) poseen una indudable vocación de solitarios, de sujetos que se sitúan aparte del colectivo pero que, paradójicamente, terminan abrazados por otros que se encuentran en situación similar, formando así insólitos grupos, familias integradas por extraños que no tienen más remedio que andar juntos en medio de un país que naufraga, pero que al mismo tiempo acoge. Al contrario que varios de sus colegas del Nuevo CIne Argentino (del cual Rejtman puede haber sido un adelantado, uno que nunca se integró realmente a esa banda, tal como le ocurre a sus personajes), de sus historias emana un trasfondo calmo y casi optimista, el que se complementa a la perfección con su estilo seco, despojado y carente de énfasis. El hombre podría pasar por bressoniano, por seguidor de Jarmusch y de Kaurismaki. Algo de eso hay, pero la belleza de sus filmes, finalmente es creación propia, privada, enteramente suya. De eso y más se habla en este podcast.

I started singing in November 2011. I uploaded a few songs to Youtube, all recorded with the digital voice recorder I used to interview people...I was a market research consultant; I conducted research projects in 5 languages; I am now retired. So that's how the whole thing started... Just for fun I could say. But there was also another deeper, more personal, reason for my starting to sing, which I may tell you about one day... 
I have no musical background, I can't read music, I do everything by ear and by feel only; I just love to sing :)
