Curing the Bliss

 A whimsical, philosophical meditation on mindfulness and letting go of ego, set on a New Zealand beach (Onieroa, Waiheke Island). The song uses surreal beach observations - from a sun-pregnant woman to an oblivious businessman - to explore themes of presence versus attachment. The whale metaphor represents embracing life's mysteries and "setting sail from the self" into pure experience. The contrast between natural wonder and modern disconnection creates a dreamlike commentary on finding meaning.

This album was conceived through a long and difficult journey spanning several years. It came from a creative drought that was brought on by years of inner turmoil and an unrelenting struggle to carve a path through a failed career with personal collapse, deep economic instability, and emotional upheaval, until the calling finally found us.

It wasn’t until sometime in early 2022 that we chose to finally unite. We decided to return to the songs we had once written. Some of these pieces, born near the end of the last century, were revisited, reworked, and rewritten. Others were blended with new creations and recorded together to reflect the deep anxiety we felt toward a society in decline, during an era that has yet to find its way forward.

The Color Set is an enigmatic musical duo who are creating their own sonic landscape with their genre-bending fusion. With influences ranging from shoegaze and disco to post-punk, new wave, and goth, the Color Set has constructed a musical universe that is as captivating as it is mysterious.

Alex Summerlin is an eclectic alternative and folk-rock musician who has played music professionally for over a decade around the Little Rock, AR, and Nashville, TN areas. Originally hailing from Bryant, AR, Alex was drawn to music at a young age by the generations of working musicians in his family.  He started playing cover music in local bars and clubs as young as 12 years old, playing music steadily throughout his teens and twenties.

Alex started writing music in college as a passion project to break out of the limitations he felt playing cover songs. There, he met fellow long-time musicians and collaborators Rick Scott and Chad Terrell, and they joined Alex to write and produce songs from their home studio in Maumelle, AR (WaterWoods Studio). 

Since then, Alex, Chad, and Rick have continued writing and producing songs that reflect influences from several genres and three generations of music they wish to share with anyone who will listen.
