The 3 Wheels

Meltwater - A vast glacier stretches out across the top of a volcano, snow-capped and frozen. In the ablation zone the blue ice waits, gradually warming up in the heat of the sun and the heat rising from beneath. Eventually a drop of water is freed from the ice and starts to inch down the glacier.

Blue Vessels

Meltwater

Blue Vessels - A drop of meltwater makes its way across the surface of the glacier that released it. Along the network of channels and passages, the blue glacial water contrasts with the bright white ice and creates a network of possible paths and routes that mark and scar the surface.

Moulin - A blue water stream picks up speed as it heads toward a moulin, a deep, dark hole in the ice reaching down into the glacier. The water picks up speed, reaches the edge and falls into the depths. The drop is seemingly endless and weightless with no concept of direction, other than down towards the bottom.

Moulin

Entrainment - Underneath the towering glacier, the huge weight of ice slowly gouges the earth and crushes any rocks in its path as it gradually carves a valley into the new landscape.

Entrainment

Subglacial Lake - The water flowing downwards is trapped between the bedrock and the glacier’s impenetrable ice walls into a frozen lake that does not freeze. Ice crystals float through the water along with microorganisms that somehow find a way to bring life to this cold, dark environment.

Subglacial Lake

Jökulhlaup - Each drop of water entering the lake adds to the weight of the water pressing against the ice. The pressure builds as heat continues to rise from beneath until it can longer be contained by the ice around the lake. The walls cracks and the base of the glacier gives way as the water explodes out in an outburst flood. The water is free of the glacier and continues to follow the path downwards towards the sea.

all music was created digitally using fl studio and vst plugins. far from what i want it to be, but still close enough. nothing is ever finished, it seems. can always be better, more, zoom in further or have variations extend. the search for virtual instruments... i do some jams on a keyboard over basslines, but can't play. i need to adjust the notes digitally. still i want to convey the feeling of an actual performance (played as opposed fully digitally created) which is all in the details. of course the music theory -- consonance and dissonance, each individual note having been chosen carefully; also the complex layering of rhythms, harmonically and melodically; especially to program on a mechanism something organic sounding; a note slightly off beat creating a twinkle or tension, an accent note to complement the coming tone, pre-programmed rubato, and ... the build-up: the velocities which are so important throughout a piece, creating soft-spoken poetry or tense drama, which can be in a single score, depending on interpretation. and last but not least the mixing of the sound. a lot of time spent on details and to consciously discern and compare versions, a lot of effort goes into the mastering of the mix. i like to create a flow that's entrancing but have been experimenting with other types of music lately, like non-repeating basslines. autodidact and love to learn.

I share artistic content as Wilco Lensink, my name, as well as Wilco M. van de Nacht because I “married the night”, tried to fashion meaning out of the pain that births perception, the suffering that births awareness. The emptiness, which may house everything. the fullness of it all; a ring I carry to honor our bond, unto a halo or crown of thorns. My aura, aureoles ... such pain and pleasure, such wonder and awe, yet most venomous and endless that in terror of insight of the universal mystery i almost caved. 

Much like Arjuna beholding Vishvarupa at Kurukshetra depicted in the Bhagavad Gita I saw the one in all without purpose, reason, meaning, Shivering, shaking, the chattering of my teeth... hearing “calm down, all is as it ever was, and there is an end to suffering.” then i knew there is love in this universe and learned all will end. but i did learn love and death rule all, whatever it is that one loves... it is also subject to change, one day it may be life, then love, power, or death. 

I try to weave classical and maybe mostly theoretically pleasing weaves, but dabble in other genres such as my techno project @wvandenacht, or where I sing as @michaeleon, and then there’s previous projects like @orpheus-immanuel of which this current one is really an extension. Most of my music is digitally crafted. Mimicking real instruments is a challenge, one which I enjoy. It is difficult to have something that was never played on an instrument sound like it was played by a human. 

I like to create trance-like flows. My music has evolved over the years as I started experimenting with different styles but the repeating bassline and layering of minimal patterns remain favorite. I like to create in general; this cosmic temple is my home, source of all pain but also pleasure, a sphere of such mystery it will not ever be fully unraveled i'm sure. Knowing that I explore how to express wonder and awe, but also abstract and intangible feelings through my art. 

There is the phantasmagoria of darkness and light, how in classical music there can be tension and it dissolves into consonance. I research this both known and unknown place whereon we happen to dwell... it is much like it. We live and explore, there is tension and we find ways to solve the tension and evolve. In music i find challenge, transcending my previous works is rewarding, it is both intellectually complex yet can simply be enjoyed.

Music however evokes feelings all humans share. And even though common they’re quite mysteriously incorporeal experiences, ethereal, complex, austere, overwhelming, long, very much intangible and at times surreal. I believe music theory and nature itself, when scientifically analyzed have a lot in common, musica universalis.

Ritual music for people with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder

As one of the founders of Voodoohop, Thomash has sparked innovation on the electronic scene. Through his multidisciplinary art collective he has caused great impact on the Brazilian underground music scene which over the years caused waves internationally. South american elements mixed with contemporary electronica are the essence of his work creating the feeling of being in a comfortable psychedelic dream.

Guided by a hedonistic attitude that stimulates individual and joint freedom of expression, his sound is a clever and unpretentious mix that combines slow melodic techno, krautrock, synthesizer layers, psychedelia, dub and ritualistic tropical rhythms.

Born in Germany, he lived in Brazil for 10 years which allowed him to absorb the exotic multicultural latin roots and combine them with the precision and minimalism of german electronic music.

Curiously, he also has a degree in artificial intelligence, which allows Thomash to create
a unique style full of oddly spaced percussion and detuned synthesizers working within their own logic, as if in a machine-learning universe.

Using his programming skills he developed tools that allow him to harmonically mix acoustic samples with live synthesizers and drum sequencers resulting in a unique hybrid between live and dj set that is always pulsing, changing and evolving.

Previous gigs include tours to Japan, South America, the USA, Canada and festivals such as  Sónar São Paulo, Melt! and Fusion, Lethargy and Wiener Festwochen..

I’ve been making music for a long as I can remember. 
I've released five albums and several film soundtracks and have been featured on BBC 6 Music and BBC Introducing. I am currently working on my sixth album, Blue Water, which follows the path of a drop of water as it travels from on top of a glacier all the way to the bottom of the ocean. Blue Water will be released across four EPs, the first of which is called Blue Vessels is out on October 18th 2024.
