Presenting the second edition of my 'A City Of Sounds' mix series. This series began as a love letter to the influences I've picked up during my time in Denver. I realize now it's much more far reaching than that. This is a love letter to all metropolitan soundscapes; to the styles that in my experience, are best heard in a warehouse district far from the futile and sneering judgements of a "normal society". 

So for the next hour enjoy a cerebral, sometimes anxiety-inducing blend of hypnotic and dub techno, leftfield, and a touch of bass music. All from artists that were introduced to me (much in the same way as you I hope) by our local tune selectors over the years.

Somewhere in the humming glow lies a field past the great beyond, between dusk and signal loss, this mix charts a course from warped downtempo into time-folding trip-hop, fractured ambient, break sensibilities, and glitch-smeared bass mutations. It begins with fog on the blue ridgeline and ends in folded time, ghost radio transmissions from past futures, reflecting, refracting, reimagining!

Threaded with warped transmissions and rarest cuts from myself and

Joining forces on a split truly like no other, Japanese maestro Wata Igarashi and Munich’s own multi-faceted genius Polygonia step up with the magnetic ‘Cross Passage’ - a four-track journey at the junction of their respective universes, teleporting us straight to a propulsive, mind-expanding headspace as we’re invited to explore sonic territories still uncharted and harmonics yet unravelled.

The collaborative A-side begins with the dynamic title-track, ‘Cross Passage’, a proactively future-facing number packing the kind of utopian drive that used to define the original techno sound. A highly cinematic narrative boasting Detroit-style vision and epic breath, ‘Cross Passage’ builds bridges between hi-tech elation and organic integration, transcending mere functionality to push back and expand the limits of techno as a deep communication vessel between the individual and the mass. Firing off like a binary script gone astray, ‘Fibre Axis’ takes us on a further bumpy ride across shape-shifting interfaces and blurred-out digital scapes, via abrupt pixel landslides and fractured 3D renderings.

Side-B finds each producer dishing out a slice of his/her own musical idiom. Polygonia strikes first with the pulsating ‘Voltage Blues’ - a mesmeric roller cut from pure eerie synth algebra, boundary-pushing abstraction and surgical but experimental-leaning rhythmic assault. The result is a piece of cutting-edge techno hoodoo, ready to take on clubs with utmost abrasive swagger. Sniping a hail of rainbow-like analogue synth outpour, Wata Igarashi’s solo contribution ’The Tunnel Dreams’ rounds off the journey on a fiercely nonconformist note. Merging a hard-hitting main swing with 8-bit-esque audio pointillism and brooding bass undertones, the Japanese producer cuts a path of antigravitational abandon and relentless rush towards absolving euphoria, which shall leave all in the room levitating somewhere between sheer daze and love-thirsty XTC.

Ronald Fabbro is a dedicated DJ with an love for electronic music. He has embarked on a never-ending quest to collect and curate tracks. With an extensive collection spanning both vinyl and digital, he explores the diverse genres that make this genre so captivating. What sets him apart is his unwavering enthusiasm for thinking outside the box. While his music ranges from Deep House to Melodic and Afro, it also encompasses the realms of Breakbeat, Electro, and Techno. His versatile taste allows him to weave together a rich tapestry of sounds, always infusing warmth and melody into each mix. To share his passion with a wider audience, he as created his own SoundCloud platform, called 'Home Studio Recordings'. Through this channel, he takes immense pleasure in curating and delivering sets.

Cenobyte got his start in the Los Angeles club scene in 2012, transitioning from the crowd to interviewing DJ's and reviewing shows in the city under his House of Acid Reviews website. From there he began doing professional artist spotlights across the northeast, working with acts like Norm Talley, 4mplify, Ichisan, and being published with the Eskimo Recordings label. 

Finally making his way into Denver's underground, he immediately found himself working with crews like Sorted, CoClubs, Invisible City, Nocturnal, Gloom, and Mother Earth Sound System. Since then he's hit the decks and has been playing events alongside some of the best talent in the city; from iconic locals to international acts like Daniel Avery. 

The name Cenobyte is inspired from novelist Clive Barker; a man who specializes in peeling back the safe veneer of society and exposing the otherworldly. More importantly, a true ambassador for the things that go bump in the night. The oddly oppressed, and the strange. Whether Cenobyte is weaving through progressive belters, hypnotic blends of techno and house, or curating dark fantastical themes like the novelists he adores, you can always count on a journey through the unknown. A story each it’s own.
